I've been looking at the numbers that Tirerack got in their tests using the Goodyear F1 All Season tires:

...when I compare this test to a very similar one (same vehicle and driving conditions) they did with a whole lineup of extreme performance summer tires:

...the F1s actually held up VERY well against the summer tires. In fact, it makes me wonder if our stock max performance summer tires (Potenza RE050A) would even be able to break even with the F1s, since max performance summer tires SHOULD perform worse than the extreme performance summers that were shown in the test above. In fact, the summer tire that did the best in the test above was the Potenza RE-01R, which stands to reason that the Potenza RE050As that we use would not do as well...putting it right around where the F1s are.
Here's the kicker: when compared with our stock tires, the F1s can handle more weather conditions, last 3x longer (420 UTQG vs 140), cost less per tire, and can be used basically year-round if needed...all this separated by performance differences that would likely be indistinguishable? Am I missing something, or does it look like there's almost no reason at all to use a summer tire (short of the extreme performance ones that cost $220+ a pop...lolz) for street driving at this point? +_+;

F1 = $161
Potenza RE050A = $198
Potenza RE-01R = $221
