Such enthusiasm for the P5

my friend's 03 corolla has that neat little night time light sensor thing. it turns on when we go in the parking garage. it's quite neat.

i want the rain sensor thing. that would be awesome during monsoon season. it kinda sucks to have to remember how to operate the damn wipers when it's coming down so hard you can't see 5 feet in front of you, especially considering how we only use it for about 2 months out of the year.

I think she talks about other lights like our ODO will light up, our window switch lights up too....It's on all the time acually, but you can't really see it in the sun.

Yeah, I think she meant that when you get out of the car in the dark or get into it...the light inside stays on then slowly fades out. AND the window switch is lit up! Well, thats all that happens in MY Canadian P5! I like the lighting colour in the P5 ( although I'm not sure I like the red colour as opposed to amber or blue)...but it sounds like the Mazda 3 will have even better lighting. And by the way....I drink coffee and YES I eat my Mount Royal bagel in the car....even bagels with.....seseme seeds!!

Damn, even bagels with seeds. You're living on the edge.

OK, let me add a little to the Canadian vs. American P5 lighting issue. I have no idea what the lady in Mctoon's original posting (of this thread) was talking about, but Mctoon lives in Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island ( Americans, get a map and look north of Washington State ). Chances are good that the lady Mctoon was talking with bought her Protege5 from the same dealer in Victoria, BC, the only dealer in Victoria BC, which is Pacific Mazda. I bought my P5 from this very same dealer.

Anyways, as part of my deal, the dealer agreed to include a $400 alarm/imobilizer (installed), and it's this device that plays the funny yet neat little tricks with the car's lights. The alarm and imobilizer are all wired into my car's key fobs (door remotes). When I press the lock button once, all dors lock, the alarm is activated, and the engine is put out of commission to would-be jerks plannng on taking my car. The alarm is worth its weight in gold. So, when the alarm is activated the lights in the interior and exterior flash once and then stay on for 30 seconds. This includes all the dash lights, stereo, etc. When the alarm is deactivated, the exterior lights flash TWICE, and the interior lights, (all the lights mentioned earlier) stay on for 1.5 minutes. Cool, eh?

So I think that this is the mystery that has caused so much chatter. It is an alarm thing that I'm positive you could have done to your car. Added bonus, I received a hefty insurance discount for having the alarm and the imobilizer. How do you say it, "bling bling," I think.

Ciao for now,
