Damn, even bagels with seeds. You're living on the edge.
OK, let me add a little to the Canadian vs. American P5 lighting issue. I have no idea what the lady in Mctoon's original posting (of this thread) was talking about, but Mctoon lives in Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island (
Americans, get a map and look north of Washington State ). Chances are good that the lady Mctoon was talking with bought her Protege5 from the same dealer in Victoria, BC, the only dealer in Victoria BC, which is
Pacific Mazda. I bought my P5 from this very same dealer.
Anyways, as part of my deal, the dealer agreed to include a $400 alarm/imobilizer (installed), and it's this device that plays the funny yet neat little tricks with the car's lights. The alarm and imobilizer are all wired into my car's key fobs (door remotes). When I press the lock button once, all dors lock, the alarm is activated, and the engine is put out of commission to would-be jerks plannng on taking my car. The alarm is worth its weight in gold. So, when the alarm is activated the lights in the interior and exterior flash once and then stay on for 30 seconds. This includes all the dash lights, stereo, etc. When the alarm is deactivated, the exterior lights flash TWICE, and the interior lights, (all the lights mentioned earlier) stay on for 1.5 minutes. Cool, eh?
So I think that this is the mystery that has caused so much chatter. It is an alarm thing that I'm positive you could have done to your car. Added bonus, I received a hefty insurance discount for having the alarm and the imobilizer. How do you say it, "bling bling," I think.
