Stupid Things You've Done Modifying/Maintaining Your Ride

Dropped a plastic cap into my transmission through the tranny oil fill hole... luckily it was soft plastic and nothing came of it, though.

while filling the washer fluid on my old car I dropped the little paper disk from the jug down into reservoir, from then on it was hit or miss if the washers would actually work.

Looong time ago when putting a rebuilt motor in the '66 Mustang I had then, put the distributor in 180 deg backwards. In pulling it out to put back the right way pulled up the oil pump drive shaft which fell into the pan. Had to drop the oil pan to put it back in.....

changing my spark plugs, and tore the boot apart trying to get the wires out of the valve cover. had to take off my valve cover to get the damn things out.

ouch, @ least you got 'em out.

It was time for new wires anyway ;)

When I installed the hood damper, I put a dimple in my hood from the underside. Not huge, but enough to chip the paint. I wanted to drill the holes just large enough to insert the rivet, and it was a tight fit..so much so that I had to tap it in with a small hammer. I forgot the spike wasn't actually attached to the soft part of the rivet and it slid right through and nailed the underside of the hood. Major bonehead screw up.

When I started to paint my interior trim panels (still not done - damn radio surround scares me) I had finished the handles and door trim pieces and had put everything back together only to realize I forgot to plug in the connection for the window switches. You can imagine how amazed, then humiliated when I finally figured that out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHh wow. that's a new one. Next time you change your plugs, do yourself a favor and change the wires. They're on the way out, I promise.

I know, but if it aint broke, dont fix it! Or in my case, if you rigged it and it works, drive it till it breaks?!?!

I love in Pennsyltuckey, what do you expect?

Philly and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between, hehe.

well tonight, I was fixing up my sway bar linkage as the joint has seem to worn out (clicking noise). The bolt stripped on it, so I tried to pry off the linkage....well let's just say I have to get a new linkage sometime in the next few days....thank god they're cheap.

forgot to fill the oil up after an oil change and drove home.... OH WAIT! the DEALERSHIP DID THAT!

want to hear another one?

forgot to tighten the drain plug so i leaked oil the entire way home and eventually leaked it all out in the garage /street

Oh wait! that wasnt me! it was the dealership again!

damn what dealership did you take it to? I hope you haven't gone back there.

As Bush once said, "Trick me once, shame on me. Trick me twice...umm...you can't trick me again."

Early last week I changed the oil on my wife's car and decided to use the ramps, though it's a Focus and higher off the ground than my P5. So the oil had a little further to fall than if I had just left in on the ground, but I compensated for that pretty well with the placement of the drain jug. What I didn't compensate for was the sudden gusts of wind that kicked up right after I removed the drain plug. Used 5w20 was alternately spraying on the near underside of the car and me. A healthy amount soaked into the pavement as well.(hand) Probably shouldn't have used the ramps/waited until it wasn't windy, but I'm impatient. At least I live in an apartment...

stupid Northill mazda, and i wasnt the only one either, the guy beside me came in face RED ready to kill someone cuz his BRAND new mazda 3 started hesitating, stuttering misfireing on the way home immediately after the oil change, maybe something (a tool or something) dropped into the engine?

oh well neither of us were happy campers

i just ordered a bunch of K&N oil filters from protege garage so ill be doing everything myself from now on.

I've got another one- today I was using my new 303 aerospace on everything plastic on my car, and stupid me lifted a wiper and then left it up while I tried to lift the hood....SCRRRRATCH...2 inches, right on the edge of the hood facing the windshield. Took all the paint off. Damn it! Now I am going to have to get touchup paint!

i did that on my mazda too

what is that 303 aerospace stuff anyways?

Pulled the bumper to clear some condensation out of the PS head light today. Got everything put back together, ran some errands around town, noticed that it was fogging up again and know that I have to pull the bumper again to silicone it before inspection. All of this leads up to my stoopidness....take my daughter to dance and on the way back to the car in the dark, I realize that I forgot to hook the bumper lights up. So they are currently just hanging out....lol

While replacing the fog lights, broke the 2 Philips screws from the light assembly. Got an EZ out from Black n Decker and dang, broke the screw extractor inside a stuck screw. Soooo stupid. Had to take it to a machine shop for drilling and retapping the damn things.
