STS2 Miata Build Part Deux - 2008

We're gonna switch at registration so that I'm the tirewarmer. I got the offer after he had already registered. Regardless, see ya there!

I am jonesin' really bad for an autocross! (drive2)

Ah, gotcha. Well good deal then. I'm really looking forward to it too. That will be my 2nd event of the year. And the 1st time I've trailered the car. We're towing down in my co-driver's Cayenne LOL

are you going down friday and coming back Sunday? on ARSCCA it's listed as Fri-Sun, but on SCCA it's just Fri-Sat.

I just checked. On the SCCA website it's March 23/24, so Sat / Sun.

The site's open on Friday for registration, tech and a test 'n tune, but it's not required. You can still sign in and get teched Saturday morning. The plan for now is to drive down Friday and come back Sunday.

Or you could look at the sticky at the top of this forum
2008 SCCA National Tour/Pro Dates
Click on 2008 Dixie National Tour and it will take you to the scca site for the dixie tour where you can click online registration.

At the tour Friday is registration/practice course and both saturday and sunday are competition days.

Yeah. February, March, same thing LOL. No, I don't know what the SeDIV events cost.

I can't wait. I'm looking forward to getting out of the frickin' snow for a change. I'm getting in sometime Friday afternoon. 1st run on Saturday morning will probably be my first run in the car.

I did the same thing at Milwaukee last year. Codrove a car I had never seen before until I got there! :)

Counting the days...

see, this has got me really itching to get my suspension on. i can't wait to see how much better the car is once the worn-out stock bits are off. unfortunately, it was also 18 degrees here today, with 25-mph wind.

maff, is that dynomax muffler similar to a cherry bomb glasspack? after seeing how cheap those things are ($23!), i might change my mind about a "proper" (but expen$ive) borla, etc. hell, i could fit 2 of 'em inline.

I have no experience with the cherry bombs, but I don't see why 2 in line would be a bad idea.
Pretty much everyone that's heard mine says it sounds mean as hell :D. I haven't driven it any real long distance yet (like, over 15 minutes), but it seems tolerable. The reason I like it is it's free flowing, it's quiet enough to pass sound at events, and it removes a lot of the buzziness inherent with most miata exhausts. One of the biggest kudos to that muffler was how much the throttle response improved with it.

And to answer your question about how it'll feel with the suspension on: you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

b/c mine is still a normal street car as well, i think i'm going w/ a rear-exit exhaust. i know the glasspacks don't necessarily muffle that well, but i've heard two work OK.

i can't wait to get the springy bits on...even though for now i'm sticking w/ relatively mild rates (400/250) on OTS sports, and not replacing the bushings (yet). i am springing for the big hollow RB front bar, though!

i also want to swap out my driver's seat to get a lower seating position...did yours accomplish that at all?

I am convinced that without bolting the seat to the floor, it is almost impossible to get much of a lower seating position than stock. With the bottom cushion in, mine's actually a little taller than stock. That being said, the BIGGEST advantage to a race seat is holding your ass in place while you're on course. With the cushion out I'm deep in the seat in a very comfortable position, and able to push hard without hanging on for dear life on the steering wheel. I don't even wear the shoulder straps @ autocrosses, just the lap belt. The seat does the rest of the work.

Having recently installed a momo start seat in my miata, I have to say it is a big improvement in feedback and sits about 1/2" lower (maybe 1 inch at the most) than stock on factory miata rails. The seat really holds you well even with just the oem belt.

And no more pogo effect from bouncing on the springy factory seat cushion.

I haven't updated this in... like almost 2 months HAHAHAHA anyway, I suppose I've got enough stuff coming that I might as well. Drumroll please...

I also picked up some uber-pimp lug nuts (lightweight = mo-betta) and alloy valve stems (because they are a) lighter and b) free with my purchase ;)). All the 949Racing stuff should be here on Wednesday according to FedEx.
