strut question

when i put in my new struts, the top nut on the piston rod came off really easily, but my question is, what if it doesnt. it seems like it would be impossible to get that top nut off because the piston rod just spins when you try to unscrew it. it says you cant touch the piston rod with tools so how are you supposed to keep it from spinning? (these are illuminas by the way so theres no allen key spot on the top)

to help out a little, unscrew the middle nut first. That way it has some force on the strut rod to keep it from spinning. Once it is loose, unscrew the other bolts.
