i wanted to get a set of rims that where 18x8.5 and i dont feel like buying new tires because the ones i have on the stock rims are still brand new. is it ok to take the tires off the stock rims and stretch them on a 8.5?

sorry if this is a dumb question but i honestly dont know

what about 18x8? is it just not safe or will it wear the tire faster or somthing like that?

The closer you are to the max width of the tire the last protection you have for the rim.. just something to consider as well.

yea thats true. i just hate how skinny the stock wheels are i think it looks dumb

I've got the stock RE050's on a set of 18x8 rims. Be careful around curbs because it doesn't look like it offers very much protection for your rims.

Wider rims without reason = more weight. More weight = increased unsprung weight = bad = reduced performance. Make sure your aftermarket rims do not weigh more than your stock rims.

If you don't like how skinny the stock rims are, getting just a wider rim won't fix that for you, the tires will look stupid. Filling the width of the rim with the proper tire will make it look wider. Stretched tires will look more retarded.

The stock Potenzas are hardly "stretched" on an 8 inch wheel. Go hang out with some VW guys, 205's on a 9 inch what?

These 215/45's on a 8" rim will work OK. A 215/45 is good at 7"-up to 8" wide, I just wouldn't push it past an 8" wide set up.

And there's also the option of waiting until you run the crap out of the stock tires, then getting the rims you want with appropriately sized tires all at once.

That's my strategy. Approaching 16k, and I guarantee I'll have new rims & tires by 20k. Might be as soon as September, just one year from delivery of the MS3.

I'm sure some have, doesn't mean it's a good option though...there's also a lot of (braindead owners out there (not on this forum of course (alright)) that do stupid **** all the time to their cars... (whip)

They are here on our forums too, don't deny it. Also, people that buy bigger, wider rims CAN afford new tires, but they are just too cheap to do it properly. And by cheap, I mean spend too much on the rims.

I put my stock Potenza's on a 8'' wide wheel..the tire doesn't look bad, mine looks pretty much the same as Wastegates..handling is not quite as good with the slightly stretched tire if that is one thing your looking for. Most of us aren't being cheap, we just see the need to use up a set of tires before replacing them..lol! 18x8 45 e.t is probably the best choice IMO that way you can do a 235-40 if you want to.

I've seen this on chrome 22''s. Rolling with the entire lip of the rim showing to the point you could almost jam your finger inbetwee the rubber and lip. UUUUGGGLYYY.
