"This car is still on factory warranty. after inspection it will be precertified.....so if you want we can certify this car"

This is a 2007 Speed6 GT. They apparently just got it and it still needs to be cleaned up and prepped for sale by the dealer. I inquired about whether or not it would be factory-certified (i.e. the 100k factory warranty).

What does this even mean? Are they trying to pull a fast one?

Not really, its just their "dealer speak" to say that your car qualifies for a factory extended warranty. The original warranty is till 40k(?) miles I think, so anytime before that expires, you are considered "pre-certified." "certifiying" means you purchased the extended warranty.

See I don't like that. It's a sneaky way to sidestep not being factory certified.

Their website and store has banners everywhere saying "ONE OF THE LARGEST MAZDA CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED DEALERS IN THE COUNTRY" yet very few cars actually carry that factory cert. Shady.

I'm not sure that mazda does the "certified used car" program that some of the other dealers do (bmw, etc..) But I agree, its very missleading.

Basically it will cost the dealership $500 to have it certified. They of course will pass this cost on to you. When I bought my MS6 earlier this year, it was certified, and the Stealership was trying to double their cost back. They were asking $2,000 over what other cars with the same miles were selling for. Good luck.

you are the only person who should be certifying your car. this is a high tech high maintence peice of work this car is, i try and check it fully every week, i wouldn't trust some Lincoln Tech graduate to do a damn thing to it. after warrantee get away from Mazda. everything they do costs more money than a local quality shop. put the time into finding a mechanic who is interested in your car and is willing to learn about it. this will most likely be my last mazda trip june 1st to refinance.

If you find a car you're interested in, ask them about warranty options, like the Total Care and Stated Care plans. And, as AWD mentioned, the 06 and 07 do have different warranty plans.

Let me guess.....Oak Lawn Mazda?

LOL yep, how'd you know?

I just moved from Oak Park back to St. Louis and had test driven a few MS6's there....probably the very one you purchased! I was looking at online reviews of Oak Lawn and saw your story once or twice. They gave me a weird vibe when I was looking at a few of their MS6's.
