Strange Noises

So I'm cruizing along in our P5 today, windows down, enjoying the ride. But suddenly I start to notice a clicking noise coming from the drivers side front when I take off, and when I shift from first to second. It almost sounds like a contactor energizing, or two small pieces of metal hitting. I jacked it up in the driveway and tried to isolate the noise, but no luck, just spun my wheels to no avail. It won't make the clicking sound unless it's on the ground, in motion. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone have a suggestion? (scratch)

Damn gremlins.
Yeah, and I don't want to take it to the dealer & $100 later be told they couldn't find anything wrong. Guess I'll just put up with it until whatever it is breaks. (chair)

experiencing the same s*** gets annoying after a while, i've gotten so mad that i just floor it hoping that some s*** would just break lose but nope keeps on clicking. keep us updated please.

I've found that if I slowly engage the clutch it doesn't click all the time... but where's the fun in that? I'm thinking it has something to do with the Injen CAI, because it's coming from that same area.

i have stock intake and still makes the noise, mine does the same thing i press the clutch and click goes away sometimes. i was thinking its the clutch its the only part thats constantly moving when accelerating and is in a closed area were you would be able to hear little parts flying around inside. i dunno just my .02

It wouldn't be the CAI hitting the side of the hole as it passes into the fenderwell is it ? Maybe as you are shifting and it is under load it is moving around a bit ? (dunno)

I used to do what you do: Jack up the car right away and find out where that little noise comes from... 3 years and 87,000 miles later, my engine make noise when cold starts, my heat shield on top of the convertor make noise, along with my brakes, front suspension when turning and rear suspension while going through bumps :D Not to mention my brake light comes on under hard braking. I'm now numb to all these noises, some of them I know what to do and some I'm just too lazy to pay attention to. I still need to get my timing belt, water pump replaced... so many noises... so many things to replace... so little money and so absent minded :p... hehehe

WE FOUND IT!!!! Turns out it was a loose axle nut on the drivers side. Took it in and got it fixed, and now the car drives like brand new. Thanks for all your input.

I thought about that too, but it was bolted in there tight.

Was there maint performed - or did it come from the factory that way?

The last time the wheels were off was when I bought new tires and had an allignment done (june/july). Dunno if they touched the nut, or if it worked it's way loose naturally.

Bringing this thread back, I had a feeling my dealer would not be able to tell me anything so I opted out of taking it in, now I worry that if something does break they will be like well, you should have brought it in. 78 bucks to look at it. "unable to duplicate the complaint" is what I know I will be reading after taking it in

OK took it in, the dealer I bought it from said they would inspect it for free. They are attributing the sound to my front mount being torn... uhhhh
-mount has been torn since I checked it the first month after having my car, I just used some crap to fill it, but took it out so they didnt have a fit about it at the dealership. Im getting a new mount thru warrantee, but still I have to sit there again all day and wait for them to discover its not the damn mount causing it. I tried to tell them, but they didnt want to listen. Whateves, they said the noise wasnt hurting the car at all, so I plan on driving the s*** out of it and if she blows up I can be like, well now, wheres my engine?

The funniest thing about my ordeal was the fact I had to take the technician with me on a test drive because he couldn't get the car to make the noise.
