Here's some pictures of my turbo project with Extreme Machine.

The car will be ready soon and I'll post more info about it.

Thanks to Chdesign and Spoolinmp3 for answering some of my question!

What are you doing about the timing issue? I email Spoolin about it and he said the advanced timing isn't good with a turbo. So then I emailed Bell Engineering to get their opinion also and they also said that the advanced timing will put you at high risk for detonation. I'm swaping my ECU with a normal Protege ECU.

I don't know if we can have those kind of problem if we run it at low psi (under 8psi)

I'll see and if it look not ok I'll find someone to swap my ECU. I know lots of people with Protege GT and Protege 5. They will probably want the MP3 ECU.

I'm still not sure about this. I didn't tell the guy at Bell engineering what psi I was going to run. I'm definetelly staying at or below 8psi though. That's a good point. I guess it needs more research. Any ideas spoolin and chdesign?

Your timing isn't advanced that much but it still woudl probably be a good idea to swap that ECU to be on the safe side. Advanced timing will promote detonation though. Keep it at 7-8 psi though untill someone blow their engine and we find out the limits.

I guess I'm going to hold off from selling it for right now. I'll just run low psi for right now. I'll probably go for about 7psi.

I honestly would not go over 6 psi with stock ecu, and If I were to run an fmu I would use a 10:1 or 12:1 ratio. But thats my .2cents and I am paranoid.

Ohh by the way Stou.....lookin sweet man!!! Your setup looks reaaly good and I like the exhaust!!!!!!
I cant wait until its done!
What are you using to control the injectors? Are you going to run on the stock timing?

My car will probably be ready this weekend. The intercooler is almost completed, the 2 extras injectors and the SDS controller are installed. We are supposed to start the car tomorow.

Like chdesign wrote, I will start at a low psi. I'll start with 6 psi to see if everything run fine and I will not go over 8psi for a while.

Thanks spoolin!

Like I wrote in the previous reply, I have a SDS controller. From what I read, it work fine and it is not to much expensive.

About the timing. Is there a way to modify it without changing the ECU?

I honestly think the timing issue isn't going to be a problem just as long as you stay with Premium pumped gas and run moderate boost. If you decide to increase the boost however, then yes that timing will eventually become a problem. I see this as just another reason for us to have Cam Gears made.

I did some tests ride with the car yesterday and basicaly it work fine but need some minor modification. After a few email with Spoolin and Chdesign, we found out that I need to add a check valve and get the EGR connected.

I run the car a few time up to 5 or 6 psi and this is realy cool. It pull very well and the sound of the turbo and the BOV is very nice.

Here's a picture of the intercooler installed:

TAKE MORE...TAKE MORE.....GET THE BOV AND THE FINISHED TURBO SET UP ...OH AND MORE PIX OF THAT NICE INTERCOOLER.......very nice STOU...congrats man...lets hope things get only better....

Thanks guys, I'll put more pictures at the end of the week.

It's so nice to hear that Turbo sound and the BOV!!! Only that worth the money... and the power!!! :D :D :D

I have checked with MSD for a timing retarding device and they told me to use the 'Boost Timing Master'. That controller retard the timing as the boost presure increase. Anyone know that MSD controller or ever used it?

I am famaliar with that msd timing retard device. They are used alot with the jackson kits. It retards a predetermined amount of timing for every lb of boost. Thing is that they do not work very well. I am pretty sure that they do not work on our ignition system, Go with that other unit that CH reccomended. That way you can custom tailor your ignition curves, and they work with our ignition systems.

I sent an email to MSD yesterday. I'm still waiting for the reply. The problem with the DIS 2 is it cost $850 canadian here. The other one, the Boost Timing Master is around $450. It's a big difference. If the other one can do the job, it's almost half price.

But even if they said that it can do the job, I'm a little worry about Spoolin comment on this device 'IT DO NOT WORK VERY WELL'. Spoolin, did you or someone that you know had problems with this controller?

We all know the old and wise saying........you get what you pay for. I have first hand experience with this MSD unit and it cost me a motor. It failed to retard the timing because they unit did not process boost, subsequently detonating the motor on my old car and kaaaaaaaaboooooom! If you are concerned about price get the j&s safegaurd. This retards timing when it senses knock detenation per cylender!!! Unlike the msd that retards timing according to boost this retards timing only when needed, and you can adjust the sensitivity on the knock sensor and actually monitor how much ignition the j&s is retarding in real time per cylendar.;)

I can vouch for the j & s unit from prior experience. My friend and I went from rebuilding the motor in our old eclipse once every three months to tearing it down once now in the past year since we installed the j & s. Even then we just tore the motor down and everything was in great shape, just wound up replacing the head gasket and removing the balance shafts (going to try this for the last time.....we've lost three motors in the past all shortly after removing the balance shafts). If you do get the j & s it's real simple to tune also. Just put it to full sensitive and the display unit will show like 30 degrees retard, then just play with the knob a little until you can hear the slightest bit of knock, turn it back to the left a little and you're good to go. The only thing that was a little tricky is that you have to install a mic into your block, this requires drilling your block so it's a little iffy....try to find a blocked off oil line you can just drill out and tap into, we had to have my neighbors (full on race mechanics and owners of a BAJA off road racing team) help us out with that part. All in all a great unit and well worth the money.
