stop the nav guidance from beeping?

In the User Settings for the navigation system there is an option to turn beeping on/off. I'm assuming this is the option for alerting beeps of upcoming turns during guidance? But, it doesn't seem to disable that beeping for me...am I doing it wrong or do I need to get the navigation system serviced?

(I find the constant beeping annoying...especially when there is already voice guidance for upcoming turns. Anyone every count how many beeping functions this car has - sheesh!)

There are 2 distinct ways to disable beeping- one for steering wheel and one for touching buttons on the NAV.
What you may be talking about is the soft double bell that sounds the same as the "Fasten-your-Seatbelts" bell on an airplane.
This bell cannot be disabled. It only rings one time for each NAV direction point, and it is supposed to ring at the exact corner or exit, and not much in advance. Other Navs use a voice message at the intersection point instead. I actually prefer less talking, so the beep is preferable to me. But you have no choice if you would rather hear her speak a message to "Turn Here" instead.

Thanks for the confirmation Bill - now I can stop searching. ...There are a couple of places where they list options to disable beeping but these must all refer to other beeping functions (like I said the car certainly has plenty of those).

Yeah, I have other GPS systems that would beep in advance of turns too (especially ones before the days of voice guidance). But, that would only seem to help when it alerts you in advance. (I already have a wife to inform me "I told you so" after passing a turn.) In any case, I certainly don't need voice guidance and beeping simultaneously.

Oh well, just another "feature" I guess.

The car itself is great...I haven't met many folks that like any factory built-in GPS systems. (Aside from the nicety of a big screen that is.) Even my phone's GPS works better.
