I would like to know some more details of how they mount that sub - I had one (not the powered version, but same enclosure for sure) which I got rid of after I tried to make it fit in my 2002 P5 (go figure, eh??). I had picked up the speaker for $60 CAN at Crappy Tire for another project previous.
Anyway - the way the spare is mounted in my P5 (it's a 2002) is upside down compared to what is pictured in this thread. Plus, there is a bracket welded to the body underneath the spare that the tire bolts to. This prevents the spare from being mounted the other way as pictured. If you do, then there is a whole bunch of space around the 'bottom' of the spare because it sits way up on the welded bracket thing.
So, if you have a car configured like mine, adding this sub doesn't seem like a great option as there seems like there must be some reconfiguration in the spare tire well to make it all fit nice and clean in the 2003.5 US models (haven't seen that here yet).
With all that aside, I would like to see how the wiring harness for the sub connects to the deck (spliced into speaker wires, plugged into deck, what?), as it has piqued my curiosity.
Also, FWIW, I haven't heard this iteration of that Pioneer enclosure, but the one had did exhibit a lot of port noise, meaning you had to mount it in such a way as to muffle that noise if you were to use it effectively. I used the Kenwood wOOx under my passenger seat, and I find it a better solution for me than that Pioneer thing would have been. I hope that with the version they are putting in the cars that they have been able to tame that behaviour somewhat.
For those that do have the factory sub - I hope it is satisfactory.
Dale.
