Stock rims tire upgrade

Ive been searching this forum for this answer but couldnt find one.

My question is:

With the stock rims being 195/50/R16 is it possible to fit 205/45/R16 on these rims?

I am looking at the Michelin Pilot Preceda / Bridgestone S0-3 and without testing i would just like to know if anyone has done this already.

Also, i have some slight damage on the outer edge of the rims due to curbs. I was wondering if this can be machined down to the same finish - as new. I know ive done it on my older mazda astina alloy rims and it worked great.

Cheers!

Ive tried a search and ive also searched the entire forums.

There are bits and pieces but nothing really defined.

I also asked an additional question which has not been asked before.

I know this is probably not helpful, but have you tried asking the dealership? They may not know because they seem to not know the difference between their ass to a hole in the ground!! I asked them about something any auto mechanic you'd think should know, but they gave me the easy way out answer, I don't know, but it would void your factory warranty speel! Also, a tire shop may be better than calling a dealership. Just a thought. Better than use the "S" button.

I called tire dealers and all they wanted to do was take my car in and see if they fit.

I dont have the time to do this.

But another question is:

"Also, i have some slight damage on the outer edge of the rims due to curbs. I was wondering if this can be machined down to the same finish - as new. I know ive done it on my older mazda astina alloy rims and it worked great"

Cheers

For the tire thing, I expect that it has been gone through in other posts, but what I would suggest is that you look at the tire models you are interested in, and just look at their websites for the recommended rim widths. Most all tire manufacturers include this info on their sites. I believe that the rim width information is posted in the protege faq on the other forum, and ought to be in the owners manual (I'd have to look).

For the rim, I know there are companies specializing in rim repair. I imagine that you could get your damaged fixed properly by one of these outfits.

Aww really.

Hasnt anyone tried to squeeze tires this size into the stock?

I would get new rims but i dont have money to throw away.

expensive tires are okay since i can justify it with safety and effectiveness.

So nobody has gone through what iam asking?

someone here has the falken azenis 215/45/16 on the stock wheels. work fine and look really good.

that's what i'm getting when my first set wear out.
