Should I stay stock or upgrade? Is it worth the investment? Check out my mods and let me know if I will see any benefit. Thanks!

You're kidding, right? The stock BPV is the best performing BPV you can buy. Anything else can't be considered an "upgrade", only "different" and actually "inferior" in function.

Most change it out due to a desire for a different sound based on the F&F movie series and the WRC racing series. There is also a misconception perpetuated by these forums that the OEM BPV somehow "leaks" boost and you get more boost with an aftermarket BPV. All pure BS. There was likely at least one that was actually faulty and instantly all the OEM BPVs are crap.

All said though, if the plastic OEM is physically broken a new one is quite expensive from Mazda.

Thanks for the clarification. Based on this, I am just going to stay with my stock BPV and invest that money in a more worthwhile mod. I don't really care about the sound, I was just looking for something to give me more performance.

I <3 my stock bpv

im on my 2nd one cuz my first one broke, and replaced it with an hks, which i hated and sold within 2 months

mine was one of such "rumored leaky" stock BPVs. rare i know.
i had a DH, monitored and recorded boost levels.
It could NOT hold the comparable boost that others could... slow leak.

Also, i am not a big fan of plastic internal BPVs/BOVs, never have been.
Thats also why i did my research and steered clear of HKS. people love those for the sound, but they are metal with plastic internals, no better than stock construction.

Yes, stock ones will essentually perform best... like stock brakes, and a multitidue of other stock parts.
But since i discovered mine leaked, i went ahead and got a full metal internals BPV, the Turbosmart BPV... not the hybrid, im not super hung up on sound either, just reliability.

And yes, i also agree TOO many people just assume their stock BPV leaks and "doesn't perform as well" as aftermarket.
I kinda smirk errytime local club members tell me they had to go back to stock BPV to go into dealer, and thus felt all sorts of turbo lag, and boost leak!! talk about placebo affect. rofl.

I always wondered the truth behind this being it all seems to be misled information. So why is it that forge and turbosmart both make a bpv for our car? And state car will respond quicker after a shift?

I've seen some mention of faster response/return between shifts, but never any leaking boost. It's a sound thing for most people. Going back to stock after both a Forge and the SU/TS BPVs, it's not a big deal. I wouldn't get too serious about picking one up unless you've got money to burn and nothing else to buy.

I agree with everything said pretty well but I've had my TurboXS on & off many times and datalogged both it and the stock BPV. What I recall I saw in the logs was the TurboXS would spike about 1-2 psi more than the stocker but also hold 1 psi more in the top-end.

I saw no improvement in holding boost. Typically, boost would be limited by the boost targets, load calculations, WGA duty cycle, and response. You won't hold more simply by slapping a BPV on the car. You may spike a bit higher initially, but as soon as the ECU sees it, it will bring it back down to the level it wants.

My question is, with a aftermarket BOV, how do you get the fuel/air mix right from the Turbo xs hybrid? An AP tuner?

you should not touch anything udner the hood of your car if you are absolutely clueless as to its function or effects of the surrounding systems. please close the hood and go read.

to answer your question. the bpv has 0 effect on afr, unless your a tool and run vta simply for the ricer sound

Note: first portion not necessarily directed at poster above me, just tired of ppl changing s*** without reason then complaining when they screw something up.

dont do hybrid, like was said read about why our cars are made to run recirc, not vta.
even hybrid bpv will make you backfire more and WILL screw with afr. like 8.5MS3 said, bpvs dont change AFR unless you go VTA/hybrid. you can get a tune to help reduce backfiring and adjust AFR however.

It had that BOV on there when I bought it, I don't care for running a little rich and the back fires between shifts. Just got it and love it over all I just want it running perfect.

set it to full recirc, then set it loose and go drive

when you hit high boost it will open, tighten it a bit
go wot again does it still open? tighten a bit more if so
repeat until it doesnt happen

you want it as loose as possible so it opens readily when you let off the gas, but not too tight as to not open at all and cause surge
