Well, I did it! I had the stock oval muffler removed and a straight pipe installed. My 07 Hatchback has a cat, another cat, a resonator, a muffler and another resonator in the exhaust system. It was WAY to quiet so I had the muffler removed. I was really worried it would be to loud for me removing the muffler, didn't want much more sound. It's perfect!! When Mike (shop owner) started my car to pull it on the rack, I was standing about 10 feet behind the car, I didn't hear a thing from the exhaust. When he started it after he was finished, I could actually hear the exhaust. It's not much louder and 99% of the people who hear it will think it's stock. I can now actually hear the exhaust at higher rpm's which is all I wanted but it's still pretty quiet. I'm pleased!

What about the butt dyno? :D
Well, it my be the placebo affect knowing I had work done but I think it helped. Driving around after, the car seemed to have a little more pep and rev faster. It also held 5th gear (automatic) better a slower speeds when chugging up a small hill, didn't downshift into second. The stock oval muffler looked different inside. I wasn't perforated or ribbed, I guess you'd call it chambered. The inside had two paths, one path was only about 1" in diameter, was straight in and looked like it dead ended. The other path curved downwards and went straight out to the outlet, I could see out the other side kind of. It wasn't a straight through shot like a Magnaflow but you could see the outlet. There were no perforation holes to absorb sound or anything, just one chmaber which I assume is for sound deadening and the other for flow.

How about a few pics
I went straight from work today so I didn't have my camera. I can't really fit under the car well but I'll see what I can to. I can take a pic of the muffler to show you what was removed, now there's just an S shaped pipe in it's place. The oval muffler is about 15"L x 7"H x 3"W, looks like a regular muffler in size and shape.
