i havent seen pics of the midnight blue with white rims... i dont know what they will look like, and i dont feel like getting done and then finding out that they look horrible

get a pack or 2 of index cards, then slide them in between the rim and tire, this will keep the paint off the tires ands its def easier than taping.

In the long term (2 yrs) any chipping/flaking? Problems cleaning?

I dunno, I use em about once a month...and I've only used em once so far (last weekend).

Hmmm...that sounds like a pretty good idea. I went the traditional tape and newspaper approach...

For those of you that have painted your stock wheels. Did you have the polished or just the painted wheels ? Any other steps aside from cleaning and sanding for prepping polished ones ? Did all of you guys leave the tires on and do it or have em removed ? I have been contemplating doing this for a while now and I think I am leaning more towards doing it than not.........

Mine were painted black by the previous owner, so I really dunno what finish they were lol. I just sanded down the black w/ a 150 grit sanding sponge (get the 3M ones at walmart, they're angled so it makes it easy to get in all the nooks and crannies, you'll need 2 or 3).

did you have to clear coat it or anything or just a coat or 2 of paint...anyone interested in a quick how to?

Well, I used 2 cans of Paint and about a half a can of clear. I did 4 REALLY light coats of white w/ abt 5 to 10 mins b/w coats (and I mean REALLY light, it took until abt the 3rd one for all the black to be covered up), and then did 3 light coats of clear

i would definately take the wheels off. i didnt want to take a risk on getting the paint on my car. as for prep, i think the popular way to go is using 400 grit wet-sanding. its enough to take off the clear coat (and the to the primer if you're persistent)

Sorry, let me clarify. I meant did anyone take the tires off the wheels themselves. My wheels are in the garage for winter.

get the tape down between the lip of the rim and the tire w/ a flat head screwdriver. When you're done, they should looke like this
