Stock Fuel Pump

I was going to put a nice aftermarket fuel pump in to help fuel delivery when I put my turbo in...but now that I can get a hold of this new O2 sensor device...do I really need a stronger pump, or is the stock one good for lower boost pressures? At what point would I need to replace the pump?

That's a good question. I think FM found out that the stock pump is actually OK for the boost levels their kit runs at.

Something interesting to note is that the Mazdaspeed Protege is running the same fuel pump with slightly larger injectors and a remapped ECU.

So, oversimplified:

O2 sensor = remapped ECU

FMU (more pressure) ~ bigger injectors

unless they are running at higher psi as well

but aren't they only boosting to like 5.9 lbs? Then again, Mazda LOVES to run rich...

Something like that, in the six range...I just thought it was rather interesting that Mazda stuck with the off-the-shelf fuel pump, and could run bigger injectors with it.

That means with some sort of ECU programming the MP3/Protege 5 could run a turbo a little better with the stock pieces. We have to wait and see what kind of further development comes from FM.

I think some people may need the extra pump to achive enough fuel for 8 PSI. The FM boys are going to get there soon. Were all waiting to see what they find.

I know this is a little off topic, but does hte mazdaspeed have the same ECU say as the P5-as far as timing is concerned, or is the timing still advanced like the MP3?

The MSP uses a ECU totaly reprogrammed by Mazda for the turbo with larger injectors. I don't think its in any way comparible to either MP3 or P5.

It's probably quite different, but if anything, I am guessing the timing is retarded further from both the MP3 and the P5...

What do u guys think about grabbing a MSP ECU and using a piggy back that would probably work wonders compared to anything we can do right now as far as fuel goes.
Just a thoght.

Yeah but isn't it the ECU that holds back the MSP from being boosted past 8 psi or am just smoking something i thought i heard that sumwhere. I'm sure someone with an MSP will go for a Haltec or sumthing of the like and maybe someoe could get a good deal and buy the ECU from them. Plus this person could do some research and make us all more knowledgable.
Peace just lots of dreams.

Its the insperation of others that keeps our dreams going. Words of deep thought.

Its the sane ECU i bet just a different programm it could be downloaded into another ecu but without the same exact eqiupment it wouldn't be a good idea.
