My friend just bought at 3 5door close to a year ago and she just emailed me this:

I've been meaning to ask you, or have you ask your mazda forum, about the cd player in my car. Has anyone on the forum ever experienced problems with their six disc? like when i'm listening to cd's it'll skip... and the cd's aren't dirty, they never skip in the same spot, and it's a weird skip.

like it's not like it skips like a dirty record, it kinda just hops over parts sometimes and it sounds sometimes like dust in the speaker. if that makes any sense whatsoever. it's weird. i don't really understand.

i was looking at cd cleaners but since i have a six disk i wasn't sure if i could use that or if that's what the problem is. Any ideas?

Anybody had this problem? Fixed? How?

Thanks in advance for your help! (thumb)

It is recommended (for all cd/dvd players) that for every 10 hours or so of play time, you clean with a CD cleaner as the laser reflector inevitably gets dirty causing it to read poorly. I don't know if it will work in the 3's disc changer because I don't know how it functions.

I would assume you could just fill up the player with CD's and the cleaner?

ex:

1-cleaner
2-cd
3-cd
4-cd
5-cd
6-cd
-----------then take them all out and put them back in this order
1-cd
2-cleaner
3-cd
4-cd
5-cd
6-cd
-----------and so on..
1-cd
2-cd
3-cleaner
4-cd
5-cd
6-cd
-----------until you have done all of them.

???

I'm only familiar with single disc players.

Six disk players use the same laser for all cds so only need to clean it once...Ask your friend if shes using home burned Cds VS store bought Cds youll probably find the home burned ones are the ones skipping which is common for most low end Cd players....

Hmmm... she just sent me this:

well just an FYI, it happens to all my cd's... burned cd-r's and regular disks. i meant to clarify that initially.

Thanks for the responses guys! (thumb)

If its only a year old it should be covered by the warranty. If it happens all the time there should be no problem getting it to happen with a service manager present. Once they hear the skip, they will replace it under warranty.

Do not use CD cleaners

Don't mean to sound brash here. But I have a bit of experience with CD cleaners/player and do not recommend any cleaners. Most of them will in fact cause more issues than fix. The CD mechnisms in those players should require NO maintenance. One of the common misonceptions about CD mechanisms is that dust can effect the lens. It can't the frequency of the laser does not "see" the dust. IIt may be affected by a heavy oily smear but light dust will not effect it. I'm sure you haven't opened up the player and touched the lens. Plus the rubber curtain in front of the slot is desinged to keep most airborne junk out of the player.

By the sound sof it there is one of two issues here

- Defective player
- incompatible CD-R's. Slight differences in burners may cause issues from player to player.

I would have the dealer replace the unit under warranty to be sure. If the same problem occurs then it's you CD-R's

Don't waste money on a cleaner.

thirded!
Plus they describe it as happening with both home burned CD-R & retail CDs, so sounds like defective unit to me. Mine wll do a short burst of noise when it resumes playing a CD-R after first starting the car, but other than that so far so good. (2006 model)
