according to exterior specs of the protege5 on the mazdausa.com website...there is an optional 17" set of wheels on the 2003 p5...daym

Yeah, the optional 17" wheel is the Mp3 Racing Harts. If you check out the 2002 accessory section, it shows the Racing Harts. They're pretty nice and clean but the MSRP is like 320 something bucks.

I also noticed that in the specs section, it still says the roof rack is standard, but when you build your own car, the roof rack will cost you about 220 bucks. This is an indication that there's going to be a 2003.5 model with different accessory and option combinations. I've been at the dealers asking them about this, but car salesman are seriously dumb. Shouldn't you know everything there is to know about what you sell? Everytime I ask them a question, I always end up trying to answer it myself.

"Is there a 2003.5 model coming out like last year with the 2002.5?"

"Uhhh....no, halfway through this year, we'll have the RX-8 coming in so no 2003.5" or "No, it's a 4-cylinder engine." Waatdahell!!!

I used to sell cars and that what I found out when I did it. Most people don't give a flip about stuff like that, so the salesman doesn't really learn it. Isuzu would actually let you take tests about their stuff and give you extra money for selling a car after you passed a test.

I sold a Trooper to this guy once that pulled up in an Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce. It just so happenned that I had the same exact car, so he and I had something to talk about.

I sold a car to an elderly couple once while I was under herbal influance (younger days). I just went super techno on them and the WIFE actually knew what I was talking about! I told her that this particular car had multiport fuel injection instead of the less efficient throttle body (this was 1987). She said, 'well isn't that more expensive to fix?' In my state, I just answered her truthfully and told her yes. They were so surprised that I didn't sugar coat it, they bought the car from me.

These examples are the exception, not the norm. I worked with a female salesperson that really had no clue. She constantly out sold me. 'This here is the left aerodynamic and over there is the right aerodynamic...'

It's different when you're female and pretty. I don't know about your ex-coworker being pretty or not, but I'm in retail and my female coworkers have less trouble influencing people to buy stuff. In general though, you better know everything there is to know about what you sell or you'll never reach your selling potential. $$$
