Hello fellow Speed3ers whats up? I have had my car for 5,000 miles already and I still grind the 2nd to 3rd upshift under hard acceleration. Is anyone else have still having this problem or is it just me? What have you all done to make the shifting easier?

First get a new stiffer rear motor mount. Then change your tranny fluid to synthetic and finaly get the TWM shifter bushings.THe bushing are a very nice upgrade for little money. You will be able to tell a big difference in your shifting after you do all this and it should cost you under $125.

shift slower...i tried shifting too fast all the time and shifting a bit slower is better and guarantees the shift. also practice quick shifting when ur driving slow..i did that alot just to get used to the motions since this is my first stick shift car.

got it all. still grind sincros in 3rd. although im lying to say i installed them all. i was told the one that gets rid of that the most is the fluid. im putting that in in a day or two. the short throw shifter with the other tranny mods will eliminate this problem 100%. i used to own a prelude and i did all these mods to it and never grinded a gear and could shift faster than billy the kids gun draw.

Its your shifting, if you actually time it right, you will not grind. This clutch has alot of travel. What helped me out was getting on the clutch before i initiate shifter movement. In every other car i got on the clutch and shifted at the same time, in this car i get on the clutch first and then shift.

Yep, thats what I'm noticing too. In my Eclipse I could just hit the clutch and the shifter at the same time. On my MS3, the throw is so long for 2-3, that sometimes I'm already letting the clutch up slightly before I'm fully engaged in 3. But I seem to be getting better at it and I haven't missed the shift in a while. I'm still thinking that a short shifter and bushings will help tons though. The 2-3 shift in this car is way too touchy and too long of a throw IMO.

the reason it grinds is in fact the stock motor mount is way too sloppy.
it allows the engine (and your shift linkage) to flop around the engine bay.
lock it in with a mount (like the TRZ mount avail. next week at protege garage) and it will be gone !!

good call. you know the more i think about it maybe it is that im ont actually in the gear when i release the clutch. a shorter shifter should fix that. f waiting for the shifter to be in position. ill make the throw shorter and save me learning a new and slower way. lol

a short shifter will just slam and gring it harder !! if you dont have a motor mount upgrade, you will have to shift slower. you have to wait for the motor to rock back and forth, and settle again so the linkage will move properly into gear.

i have the motor mount....getting the tranny fluid in tomorrow. ill let you know how the diff is.

p.s. i was just joking. pretty much like if it doesnt fit...well....itll fit....haha.

tranny fluid make a big def with the motor mount in shifting and grinding. def worth it and helped a lot. i dont get anymore grinding.

what tranny fluid do you guys suggest? looks like i'm gonna have to look into getting the rear motor mount. feels like i'm hitting the gate or something going from 2 to 3. it doesn't grind, it just doesn't go in.

i had the same problem. three suggestions. 1. motor mount. 2. redline mt-90 transmission fluid. 3. make sure you either WOT shift to third as fast as you can and deal with the grind, or make sure you dont shift at the same time you hit your clutch. lots of people here including me were shifting to quickly, so make sure your getting your shifter into gear instead of hitting that wall. its weird, start out shifting into third slower at first and increase the shift time until you get used to it and feel how far it needs to go to get in etc etc. dont feel left out though, its a tricky 3rd.

cool cool. thanks dude.
i had no problem shifting 2 to 3 in my celica but then again my celica engine isn't rocking nearly as much as this beast... (lol2)
