Stiffness when shifting

When i shift from 1st to 2nd, it always seems so stiff, like the stick doesn't move there smoothly, but it's smooth from 2nd to 3rd and 4th and 5th. This is my first stick so i'm not sure if it's supposed to shift like that. And i do press the clutch all the way down. I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd at 2500 to 3000 rpms.

I agree with you. I actually miss the shift sometimes and I have to lay off the gas for the synchro to engage again. I also don't like how far the clutch pedal travels you have to put it half way down before it even starts to engage

go to the dealer! tell them to check the tranny! just incase. a few trannys have blown already.

ADJUST IT....its simple....move your seat all the way back....get a flashlight...and a (i think 12mm combination wrench) combo wrench....you will see the ROD that actuates the hydraulic master cylinder for the clutch....loosen the jam nut with the combo wrench.....then to make it ingage SOONER....screw the rod OUT....give it a test in the drive way....keep adjusting till you get it where you want it...then tighten the jam nut....and your done.

i've noticed this too...that there is some impedence when i shift from 1st to 2nd...and it is starting to get on my nerves...but when i tested other P5s before i bought mine i kinda noticed the same thing...so i've assumed that this was normal...next time i go in i'm gonna have them check it out

The OEM shift linkage is JUNK!

Compare what you remove to the B&M unit when you replace it (next week?) and you'll wonder how you shifted it at all. I missed 2nd frequently because it requires you to pull your arm almost into the back seat - I have no idea HOW my wife drove it, with the seat as far forward as she needs it.

I ordered the shifter from Protege 5 Online the week I bought the car, and changed it the day the new one came in - Best mod I've done to this car, by far.
