SS AFC Install How-To

also quick ?.. with the lines that it says "cut" into, like the MAF and O2 sensor, they actually mean cut in half right?.. and from the looks of it, they sets of wires run from the sensor/MAF through the ss afc before going back into the ecu.. .correct?, just want to double check everything before i actually cut them, not a lot of wire to be working with coming from the ecu : /

-Update:What size is the vacuum line, same size as the boostlines 3/16"?

ya it sucks. But you need to cut those 2 wires. The O2 wire sucks, because it so small. If you read the paper that came with the AFC, or the one in the first post line by line you cant go wrong.

I was just wondering, under the notes section with the programing, what are those settings for.. is that your personal adjustments that you made mostly for "saftey" or what, or are those settings that should be selected out of the box?

i just got mine in today!! :) what are the extra set of wires for? the orange ones, where do they connect to?

well i know its for datalogging.. other than that im not sure, and i think it has to do with a wideband O2 sensor, but im not sure if it comes with all those different wires to connect them too.. ive never actually seen one, thinking about getting one in a bit though

how did u connect the red, yellow, and black wires. what did you clip those to? can u post a pic of how the wires look connected?

^^ sorry, i am unable to help there, i was saying that i was not sure myself completely how to hook it up so i just left it as is, im just pretty sure it has to do with wideband sensor.. and i know its for datalogging, but i dono really what they mean by that, or how its used.. i would actually like to know myself, if anyone knows..
.. alsoooo i tried to connect to my ecu through the R4 program, just to see what im running, and i sat in my car for 30min or so unable to connect, i have a DB9 male connector-DB15 male connector(hooks up to my labtop connection), but i was unable to connect, the only "Com #" i was able to attempt to connect to was "Com 3" when i realized that when i checked my dial-up ports, that Com 3 was that port.. so i guess my actual connection with the cable was not coming up.. anyone know why?.. i just bought the cable so its brand new, is there something that i missed, i also tried have it connected with the car on/off/electric only on, and restarting the computer connected.. nothing worked, help would be great, i would really like to get this connected soon.. there any settings on my comp. that would affect that?

how long would it take me to install? im thinking of doing it now and its 4pm and i need to get a couple t's from autozone. I dont want to be doing it when the sun goes down.

wait then, it was not very had but I like to get things done right, and neatly, as well as running back to the store for small parts here once or twice, but id say... it took me the better half of the day, I had also re-orginized my vac. tubing, so that my vac line comes in through the firerwall, and Ts going to my afc, and then to my boost gauge(idea that 505zoom gave me :D), before I had the whole thing back to running and all of the small zip tie pieces and such cleaned up.. for me, the longest part was after the connections, and was getting the vac line ran, and then putting everything back together so all the wires were together and not getting caught on anything.. I may be slow but I like the job I did, and I don't have to worry about it afterwords
-also as far as time.. I'd say I started at noonish, took a break for dinner only and finished completely up at night, like i said i had a few extra things to do with the vac line but even so, its getting dark pretty soon now.

I guess ill wait then. :( I want to do it right and clean also......I just hate staring at it and wondering what it'll b like.

so, i have my boost gauge vac line going directly to the mani, are you saying to make that line go to the AFC then t that off to the boost gauge? If so, that will be easier for me because that vac line is already through the fire wall.

ya, what i did was I had the autometer boost gauge vac line that comes with it.. that plastic thing, so when i installed the afc, I wanted to replace that line for the most part so I ran the new "good" silicone vac line through the firewall (was a pain but oh well) and then about 6inch or so after the firewall I T'ed it off there (I think if you ran it to the afc first and then back to the gauge it would be a) alot of unnecessary vac line, and b) get kind of crowded in the glove box) and secured it up near that bunch of wires under the steering wheel so it was out of the way, and just ran the line going to the afc behind center counsel kinda (I was able to see a clear gap when looking through to the other side) that popped out above the AC vent kinda thing, and I ran it above the metal frame piece that was to the left of the glove box.. over all i just found a route that worked well so nothing was pinching it off, or no way it could get tangle/caught on anything, and I also zip tied the vac line to the other wires as it went into the glove box because i noticed that it would kinda stray off to one side, so it just kept it in place a little better.. easy stuff... and as far as the source for the vacuum, I had mine originally into the intake mani as well, but when i installed my distribution block last weekend(along with some other stuff) I just switched it over to that and put that little "U" connection back the way it was, also.. I myself screwed in my afc to the glove box, they have self tapping screws but that plastic is just too flexible so i just quickly drilled 2 small holes with the afc box on the outside of the glove box..
I only mention the really small/easy stuff because they are usually the things that are easy to overlook, and are easy to address, and btw, it was very nice to drive with it, as everyone else said, it makes it all so much smoother!

thanks, thats what i thought you did! looks like ill do the same. my boost gauge and hose is new so ill just use that!

nice, a good section of time was due to me trying to get that new silicone vac hose through the firewall without really damaging it too much, i had tried to use a drill to make an actual hole instead of a cut, but it ended up twisting the grommet and poping it out of place.. which needless to say was a HUGE PITA to get back into place.. but there's always something... with what you know for the set-up and have it all planned out it shouldn't take you long at all then
