SRI or CAI

Hi,
Im looking into getting a CAI or a SRI and would like to know what the major differences I would see in a 06 MZ3 GT. Are any brands better than others or do any others perform better than others?

Ive searched on youtube for sound clips and would like to know if any the sounds are true to the intakes?

Thanks in advance for the help.

SRI is safer in the sense that you won't suck water into your engine as easy. But you will suck in hotter air easier. Hot air reduces power.

CAI makes more power, but if you are flooring it while it is raining/snowing or driving through puddles you could have problems. Common sense would state that you don't drive like an idiot in bad weather.

My vote is CAI. And F2 usa's CAI at that.

Great thanks for the info. I read the SRI is an easy install do you know if the CAI is the same. If SRI is safer is there a big difference in the in the power and how often is there a case when you have problems and whet are they?

Thanks again for the info.

Either way you need to remove the filter resonator in the wheel well, so installs will be very similar. The power difference is very minimal, but the consistency of the CAI will be better. I honestly am going to do the F2 intake from www.f2usa.com it has shown to be one of the best and it is only $175 shipped.

I ran into a major issue this past weekend with my AEM CAI. It was raining but i was driving slow. I parked the car overnight and went for lunch with the girlfriend. It was a beautiful sunny day out so i had no worries of being harder on my intake.

I redlined first and second to hear that baby roar when i got a CEL. My car was stuttering and eventually quit on me before i could coast it home. I pushed it to my parking spot and checked under the hood. When i lifted the hood, some of the rain from the night prior landed directly on the DryFlow.

I unplugged the negative and pulled the MAF sensor out only to find that it was soaked with water. I read on this forum somewhere to use a hairdryer to dry it out. I did that and reconnected the battery. I started the car(Holding the deepest breath) and it worked!!

LESSON LEARNED!

Even though it may be sunny and dry out, there still is water sitting in the splash guard or on an area of the engine where it can collect. One turn can cause water to pour over the Dry Flow and have it sucked up.

a $300 CAI isn't worth having to fix a Hydro-locked Engine. Shorty, here i come!

I had a scare like that last summer, except it was raining when my engine shutoff. Not hydro-lock, but the rain messed with my MAF sensor. I put a hydro-shield on it, and haven't had a problem since then.

I have the corksport SRI and it is really easy to install, I can't compare it to a CAI but it was easy to me. I also want to warn people to cover the battery box airduct hole if they are using a SRI and removing the battery box airduct. If the airduct is removed rain can blow into the engine compartment almost directly onto the filter of a SRI.
