SRI and heat issue.

I have not seen anyone talk about this here, so.... I have the AEM SRI in my P5. It's placement touches the top radiator hose, but just barely. I notice that after a good engine warmup that the intake tube becomes very warm from the radiator hose. My guess is that this may warm up the air inside the intake, thus almost defeating it's purpose. Anyone have ideas?

1. I thought about wrapping the radiator hose, but will that cause harm to the hose over time and failure.
2. Some kind of heat shield, but there is no room.
3. Wrap the intake tube, but it will not look good.

Looks like a custom upper radiator hose job is in order. Maybe a sweeping "s curve" rather than two 90 degree turns. What else is in the way that I can't see?

Considering the small gain you are getting anyway, I wouldn't do anything.
Engine bay looks good, why mess it up for what, 1whp additional?

I agree, I want to keep it clean. I was just curious if I'm actually heating the air moreso than getting cooler air.

Looks at a glance that an upper radiator hose 1/2 inch longer on the engine side, and 1/2 inch shorter on the radiator side would shift the body of the hose just enough to provide you with clearance. I can't see what else might be in the way, and somebody else may say you should go for a 3/8 " shift, but I'm just eyeballing.

dude do what i did with my AEM SRI that looks exactly like yours, turn it to the right, have the filter lay on top of the wheel well hole (where a CAI wood go through) it doesnt get so hot at all. yur will have to relocate yur coolant tank.

its pretty snug, the filter will fit in pretty tight behind the headlight trust me. dont worry about the bracket sticking up, it doesnt touch anything. but yeah if yur ingen is long enough it will fit snuggly behind the headlight housing. and i also like the fact that you can hear the hissing of the intake better becuz its right unde the hood line.

thats what i was going to recommend also. either that or trim and inch or so off the intake where it meets up to the maf, just enough so that it doesnt touch the hose...

See...now that's an answer I like to hear. Something I just would not of thought of. Even though I have done it in the past, but for different reasons.

So that bracket just sticks up and does nothing?

That seem like a hazzard and an eye sore.

Some guy on these forums in the past had a thread up about how he gained an extra 3-5 whp, by just moving his aem sri up like this...mine is in the same place, right behind the headlight...i bent the bracket a tad, just to insure it didnt make contact with the hood.

Yep, just shift it and cut the tab off like mentioned before.

Good luck

I think the 2nd pic is an AEM not sure though.

3rd is the automatic version, much shorter.

I would have to go ahead and say I disagree with that kind of gain.
