Springs on blown struts immediately WTF!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so as some of you may or may not know I had cobb springs installed at a custom auto place around my area last sat. I had noise as soon as I left while going over bumps. The noise is a poping clunking type of noise when going over bumps worse at slow speeds and only from the front. So I thought maybe it was just things setteling with the springs let it go for a few days. Car goes down the road strait and noise can not be replicated when cornering or driving in circles. Tuesday the noise was still there so I called the place and explained things they said bring it down end of the week. Today is friday they rode in and suposedly looked at the car they say it is the struts. So I am so fucccking pissed off at this point because 1. I wasted the money on them putting the s*** on I have to get the struts and 2. Why the hell wouldnt they have heard this if they ever test drove my s***! I know that springs can wear the struts down quicker but immediatley?! So WTF am I to do now scrap the springs and get coil overs? kill myself? kill fuckers who put my s*** on? (doughpoke

good lord. My springs drop 1.4 inches and Ive been rolling on them for 6 months they ride the same. Cobbs are like 1 inch drop only.

I dont think shops test drive cars after inastalling springs, tho i could be wrong. But I'd say just get some KYB shocks for in there, those shocks have always worked well for me when my cars are lowered. I think they handle drops up to 1.5 inches without blowing. Everytime I drop a car I put a set of KYB GR-2 on (they are cheap too) and they work well.

Just didnt put a set on with this car and still rides fine. Sorry for your misfortune. Sell the DG lip and use the money for new shocks.

only way to truely tell is take the sturt off, compress it and see how quickly it rebounds... if its really slow its blown

is what i described the sound that blown struts would make and why is it 10x worse going over bumps 25-35mph compared to 65mph. could i damage anything driving on them like this?

Blown struts don't make a certain sound per se. I think the shop is trying to pull a fast one on you man. Blown struts are really only apparent when going over bumps and stuff, if they're blown, they'll have a tendency to pogo a bit (ie. oscillate). The more worn and blown they are, the worse this pogoing effect is.

Your shocks may actually not even be blown. Could just be the spring not seating properly.

The ride isnt bad thats another thing that gets me. No pogo ride. I guess I'll have to take it somewhere again to some other incompitent person ahhhh!!! (chair)

It could be the top hats making that noise your describing..mine does the same thing with my Eibach pro-kit springs. I wouldn't buy new struts just yet...might want to check and see or try and feel if the little nippple on the hat is in line with the grove on the bottom back of the strut..it will help some but won't completely get rid of the noise. http://www.mazdaclub.net/mz3ws/ look at the bearing install in the suspension section.

This is why I do my own work if at all possible.
Strange as this sounds, measure the fender height at each front tire. If they screwed up one spring and it isn't seating properly, there should be a noticeable difference in ride height from one side to the other. Of course this won't work if they screwed up both.

if you're not getting pogoing, it's probably not the struts. I blew my stock struts to the point when we took them off the piston or whatever just fell down into the housing with no pressure.

Like everyone else said, they probably aren't seated right. Get someone else to check it out or do it yourself cause it sounds like the shop you took it to has no idea what the hell they're doing.

I should have done it myself I thought I would save myself the hassel since I dont have a compressor but it has been even more of a headache. Should have known better when I seen most of the suspension work this place does is on donks. The company is autosportplus is canton ohio for all that want to know, www.autosportplus.com . You don't even need a compressor honestly. My buddy and I did it by standing on the spring and facing it toward a wall when taking off the mount. Not the safest way to do it but it was honestly not a problem. WHen putting it back on, we just had one guy push the mount down and the other screw the bolt on. It's a lot easier to put the mount back on since the springs are shorter. Just make sure the spring is sitting right.

okay for more confirmation the passenger side where the noise seems to be coming from is about 0.5-0.6 cm higher than the driver side (which is equal to just alittle under a quarter inch). This would not happen if I had a blown strut right?

No it wouldn't. If that's the case, I'm 90% sure that it's the spring not sitting properly.

I don't think its possible to put the front springs upside down, its more likely to be the top hats are in the wrong position causing the springs to sit at the wrong angle on top.

5mm with this suspension setup is just a distraction. I wouldn't take it as evidence of anything. I was looking for more in the range of 10 mm. There's a notch kind of thing that sticks up into the area where the lower spring seats that the end of the spring is supposed to butt up against to make sure it is seated correctly. I had visions of the spring end being on top of it instead of against it.
