Equinox said:the sports muffler will not change any kind of horsepower readings like the bosal does because the bosal is supposedly a whole catback system. The only thing the sports muffler will do is change the tone of your muffler sound, ie the name - muffler.
reminder: catback exhaust is the whole exhaust piping from the catalytic converter to the end of the exhaust (muffler)
Under our car the exhaust system contain the following:
headers -> catalytic -> pre-muffler -> 'S' pipe -> muffler
catback is pre-muffler to muffler.
sport exhaust is just the muffler section.
So I go back to the dealer and raised the issue with them. Finally, they got me this correct Sports Exhaust. Their invoice said it cost $191 so I assume it's the right one. I thought the Racing Beat website said their cat-back would cost $495.It appears that the MP3 sedan muffler has indeed been installed on your car. If you follow the link to the Mazda web site, it shows very clearly the muffler (and the part number) of the muffler that is intended for the Protege5. We did not supply these mufflers, they were produced by another
supplier. The outlet pipe for the sedan is much longer than the pipe on the sedan model. The part number for the sedan muffler is 0000-8M-C08.
We will be offering a complete cat-back exhaust system for the Protege5 in the very near future.

Did anyone happen to notice that SLY's Mazda dealer gave him the MAZDASPEED muffler, not the Protege 5 Racing Beat muffler (The "real" Sport Exhaust)? According to corksport, that muffler is ~$500, the Racing Beat muffler is ~$200. Not too bad a deal in my opinion, ...

if that's the case, I am ordering one today!
