Spool Downpipe Questions

Terry,
I was looking at your site and I didn't see anything that looked like a downpipe so I thought I would ask some questions.

Does it eliminate the first cat?

Do you have a picture of it?

Is your system CARB approved?

I'm not some hippy or anything but keeping my car clean burning and street legal is important to me. Living in CA is a b**** but it is worth it.

The Spool system eliminates the first cat and the downpipe has to be welded into the exhaust. The downpipe is the small curve of pipe in the pictures with the flange on it. Since it eliminates the first cat there will be no CARB approval on this kit anytime or ever.

Not totally true there is some things that u could do like maybe run a 2.5 exhaust w/ maybe 1 cat and that way u wont thro CEL's and you'll probably pass CARB

You will not pass CARB with only one cat when the car came with two from the factory. That is a fact...

And without relocating the O-2 sensors, or modifying the signal from one of them, you will throw a CEL.

Thats not true whatsoever. You should pass inspection with flying colors. Remember being CARB certified and passing inspection are 2 different things. Just to puth things in perspective the MSP utilizes only one cat. As for visual inspections few states rarley even know that they should be looking for 2 cats. And if they are then just by having a TURBO on your car you will FAIL visual inspection if you have 1, 2 or no cats on the car.
As passing the sniffer you should have no probs...

True, howver carb certification and passing a state inspection are two entirely different matters. And the Spool kit has already passed inspection in 2 states

So there is not a flange that bolts on to the cat, it must be welded? And does the Spool kit just move the second o2 sensor to the second cat?

Your car must be approved by them to be legal if it's registered in Cali.

True, but BlueMp3Turbo was specifically mentioning CARB...

I'm sure you will pass the sniffer test just about anywhere. But visual inspection is another thing entirely. So, its cool that you've passed in two states.

If New Jersey only the sniffer test? I apologize for the ignorance, I'm only 18 and have never needed to get my car inspected....

To my understanding, NJ's visual inspection is very lax. And there sniffer test is just a probe stuck in the exhaust at idle

Yes the spool kit does not bolt up to your exhaust system....there is a reason for this. Our 2.5 downpipe is very healthy in size. When fabricated to mate up to the stock exhaust we would have to use a large reducer that would bottleneck our system. So we choose the weld up route since many turbo guys eventually weld up a custom exhaust.

The 02's are placed as follows:
First one is in the upper part of the downpipe and the second one in the lower
