MODS: I do not know if this belongs in the appearance section, but I wanted everyone to be able to read this

FYI to all Speed6 and possibly Speed3 Owners:

If you are ever involved in a fender bender, accident, or wanting to get parts painted, you must know that our paint (OR atleast the Velocity Red Mica) is not a common paint. It uses a three-stage paint system --base coat, several layers of pearl (to achieve desired color), and a clear coat.

It is a DuPont paint, however, MOST body shops can not match this paint system and must special order it. Just be sure that whenever you bring your car in to be painted to make sure they understand that it is a Special Order paint, and their computer systems will not match it. This caused a delay of about a week for my car because the body shop thought it was a standard paint.

no its an actual concern as the paint process becomes more involved... Some body shops wont recognize the process and you will end up with a poorly matched paint surface. Most dont realize the techniques to give the mica flake that "raised" appearance for more color depth

unfortunately he is right. Fortunately, it only applies to certain mazda colors (velocity red is one of them... Ill try to remember the rest)

this paint process has been around for some time..
a good shop should have no reason to delay the job for a week....

Maybe Im a sucker, but I believe the fact that the shop could not mix up the correct color themselves and had to special order it.

As far as the week delay, it was a combination of needing to order and receive the paint, and also because I had lost my spot in the paint booth

hope mine turns out good....car's still in the bodyshop for more than a week to replace the front bumper..sigh

im sooo nervous i need to bring my car in on wed, i hope they can match the liquid platinum :/

There is no need to be nervous. The paint isnt magical, the body shop just has to know it has to be ordered

No need to be nervous. There Were 2 little dings on my speed6 from when i bought it and the Dealer got it matched perfectly
