Speed6 Clutch...............

Has anyone with a Speed6 changed to an aftermarket clutch. If so which one and what problems if any ?? I got 24000 on mine and either the auto adjustment is not working or the yo-yo's @ the dealership glazed mine because it has gotten worse and worse since I took it in for the smoking turbo issue, and of course when I questioned them about it after I picked it up. They said it was fine, but the clutch does not engage until the pedal is almost all the way up.
Any ideas or opinions ??
Thanks

well unless you have done the clutch pedal adjustment then the clutch shouldn't engage until its almost all the way out.

i have the ACT 6 puck sprung clutch.. much stiffer pedal and harsher engagement than stock (stop and go traffic kinda sucks), but i got used to it and love it. i bought my car with 17000 mi on it and the clutch was almost all the way out when I got it..

my clutch was gone at 47000 km. i only had time to wait for the stock clutch :(, next time it goes im going to go act.

and unless you beat on this clutch and feather it all the time it should be good for almost 100k miles. someone recently was able to reach that mark so it is possible. i have 31k on mine and it still feels the same.

To comment on the above from bova, I beat the hell out of the stock clutch high-rev launching and flat-foot shifting on track days. The clutch was burned pretty badly before I had it (got it at 16,000 miles; now has 28,000). I certainly didn't cut it any slack.

The clutch still operates, but during WOT passes it now has a tendency to seriously slip in 2nd, 3rd, and4th gears. Day to day operation is fine, but the pedal and engagement is soft despite my adjustments.

I confirm that I could have gotten A LOT more mileage out of the OEM clutch had I not done any sort of track days the way I have. The others are right. You probably just need to do the pedal adjustment.

This week I bought the Spec Stage3 clutch and Fidanza flywheel. I will probably not be able to install them until next weekend. I intend to do a full how-to and write up when I'm done.

I just wanna see the how to blender...my clutch is SHOT and im just at 30,000. And yes i have beat the hell out of my car so its gotta be my fault but i do need a new one and im not sure i want to go stock again...because i know im still going to beat the hell out of it!

ive got close to 41k on mine, i bought the car used at 29k so idk if the clutch was replaced but it seems fine i guess?

MS6 Clutch

Good info, guys. I had my clutch replaced at 30,000 by the dealer under the SB, recall, or whatever. The clutch and flywheel were fried.

I now have 45,000 on my '06 MS6, and I'm not confident in this clutch, so I'm considering aftermarket.
I did some autocross, so that may not have helped, and I used to hold the clutch in at stoplights, as I always did on my manual clutches with no problem, but I recently read that that's a no-no on hydraulic clutches, so I haven't done it lately.

What? Ive never heard that about holding the clutch in.... That true?

lol i guess its so he can leave it in first and just go when the light turns instead of pushing the clutch in the throwing it in gear and then going.. seems easier.. but a no-no none the less.

When you keep clutch pedal to the floor at stops your putting wear on the pressure plate cause your pushing them in and holding them there. This can lead to premature clutch failure. This is very old skool and been around since forever. Recommended to leave in neutral and put in gear when your going to accel away.....

You also don't want to keep your hand on the shifting lever because it can put undue stress on synchronizers. It's not as prominent in newer transmissions as it is/was during the muscle car era and the 80's, but it still occurs.

thats a good little piece of knowledge to have.. ive heard this once before. but never really took it into account since i dont really rest my hand on the shifter anyway.

59k on my stock clutch and i thoroughly enjoy my ride and it feels the same when i took it home with 30k on it. i am going to and change the tranny fluid to redline here at 60k though. i'm also not putting a significant amount of power down over stock.

my warranty is about over in 1500 miles and i was wondering if the dealership would change out my clutch and change fluids if i requested? i have about 48k miles

If you request that they do it, I'm sure they will, but they'll charge you for it I'm sure. The clutch is not really a warrantable item outside of functionally since it's a wear and tear part.

Here's is my clutch installation. Sorry it's not a more detailed how-to. It was a pretty 'interesting' install.
