Speed3 Question for Speed6 guys - Power up top??

As you speed6 guys have a year of research and testing on basically the same engine that's in the speed3, I got an important question for you guys who have bolt on modded Speed6's.

The Speed3's Engine really falls flat about 5500RPM and its seems to me that it feels like a restriction problem(ie..Intake, exhaust). I looked at some dyno's of the speed6 and it seems that your engine does basically the same thing. With just a CAI and a TBE does that help lessen the falling off on top? Do you make good power till red-line or is it still best in most occasions to short shift for best acceleration?

Thanks for any info, Love the speed6 also.

You will see some gains with a downpipe past 5500, and with the CP-E tuner.

A couple of things are at play here.

First is boost is dropped after 5500, second the throttle plate actually starts to close at 5500 as well. Neato safety feature!

coming from 8000RPM SR20's and even higher Hondas thats gonna take some getting used to. I'm hoping when cobb releases there stage 1 and 2, they work on that. It may just be the turbo isn't big enough to flow at that high of an rpm? I know it really doesn't make that much difference short shifting into the meat of the nxt gear early but, be nice to be able to have a steady pull to 7000.

to be honest, you wont see any big difference, only minimal changes that are almost none. The only way to fight that problem is to get the piggyback.

Honestly for some reason with after I had the CP-E DP and Exhaust system installed it seemed to pull through to the redline. But if you check the dyno's Horsepower actually still tops out around 5600 which is weird, because it was real noticeable before but for some reason not so much now.

+1
First time I drove the car hard (after putting on about 1600kms) I ran into what felt like a brick wall somewhere between 5500 - 6000rpm. It was so hard and sharp it felt like a fuel cutout (as when over rev protection cuts in). This was totally stock. I checked and found others had experienced the same thing and identified it as the dreaded sharp power drop.

I then did my first mod, a CAI (Fujita). No significant difference. Power still cut off sharply between 5500-6000rpm.

Then my next mod, a custom 3" straight thru single outlet catback exhaust. No more sharp power drop off. It was like the "fuel cutout" had been switched off. There's still not a lot of power past 5500rpm but it's now a smooth decrease rather than a "brick wall" sensation.

That's my experience.
