Speed3 just doesn't feel the same...

the z06's are hott and all, and they cost what - $70k or so? i dont know... but.....

my ms3 at $25k + $5k in mods will be pretty fun too (400whp or so)

I have priced out a new vette many times and it always totals out to be around $50 with the options I want. If all goes well in the next few years, I would LOVE to buy one. I think a Bimmer is my next car though....but we'll see.

Dude, you're pretty damn lucky to have been able to just take it for a spin. I would probably let somebody else drive mine too if they were in love with the car as much as I was....

^^ I think it shuts the cylinders down to conserve fuel. They're getting pretty expensive (>70k) but at one time they were hard to beat cost wise.
It still is hard to beat cost-wise. To get a car that is capable of putting up the same numbers in a straight line and on a track you need to spend another $30,000 to $40,000. It's still a great bargain.

500HP would get me anywhere I wanted to go.................... sideways. And a cloud of smoke would follow as well. Unlike the cloud of smoke that follows me in my MS3 :(

I can't believe how many comments are actually negative. I'd give my left testicle to own a Z06. "Don't know what you'd do with 500hp"- "End up in a cemetary"- say WHAT?! I don't know about you but I'd LOVE to have 500hp and I'd have the control and sensibility not to kill myself in it to boot.

Apparently you can't tell negative comments from jokes. (braindead (encourage

I grew up around a TON of classic cars and hated the fact that none of them were driven more than once a twice a year in perfect conditions for a VERY limited distance. Talk about a waste. It you aren't going to drive it why have it??? But, But, But it might get scratched...lol...buy a nice picture of video it will serve the same purpose and be a fraction of the cost!

i understand a mazdaspeed3 and a vette z06 are 2 completely different cars. i love my speed3. i love it so much i have a white one ordered too. i am a lover of all types of cars, and wanted to share my excitement of getting to drive one of the great performance cars on the market. my only gripe is the shifter. when i was playing with it before driving, i was going into reverse instead of 5th a few times. no safety push down or pull up on the shifter to get into reverse like every other 6-speed i have driven. i think i could learn to live with it though.

Actually the car is pretty practical in an odd sense. My Dad owns a Z06 and you are bang on, when it comes to ease of driving the thing is incredible. Leave the action handling on and the car will make you look like a god. Point the steering wheel where you wanna go and it goes there. That said, you turn off the action handling and you can easily scare the sh!t out of yourself. It has a rediculous amount of torque, so much so, launching the car is effortless, gas isn't really even needed. Just let out the clutch and drive. It's also a very comfortable car to make long trips in and can easily pull 30 mpg on the highway, IF you maintain close to speed limit speeds.

It loses all practicality the moment there is any sort of moisture on the road at all.

Terribly fun car to drive, and a cRaZy attention getter.

That said... I love my car.

If I had to do it again, and decide between a Speed and the Zed, and had money for either flat out...

No questions. I'd take the Z06 hands down!

the ZO6 has always been in the 70k range. It is a great car though, very capable, though if i could afford it I would rather the Viper.

It gets its gas mileage from the double overdrive 6spd. All 6spd LSX motors have a crazy 6th gear ratio- In my T/A, I turned 1000 rpm at 50mph in 6th.

And 70k may seem expensive, but its a bargain for what you get. It's comapred with Porsches, Ferraris, etc.(usa)

I guess I'm wrong about that. I thought I read somewhere they did have cylinder deactivation.

After looking up the numbers again, I have to agree. 3.7 0-60 / 11.5 @ 125 -super car performance.

that's exactly how it drove. i was actually surprised at how well it hooked up with the traction control off. i guess with 12 inch wide tires in the rear, it should.

I've enjoyed Vettes all my life and have never owned one. I've just never been able to justify one to myself. Here's something I did to sort of give me the Vette feel at a budget price. I bought a V8 RX-7. If you want a nice looking car that might actually whip the Vette's tail, do a V8 swap. The second and third generation RX-7s are nice cars. With a LT1 or LSx engine installed, they're so powerful that they're scarey. I was told my little hybrid does the quarter mile in the high elevens. It's been dynoed at 365 wheel horsepower. I guess that means it has something like 400+ at the flywheel? The LSx engines do far better. As for gas mileage, it's reported many of them get in the upper 20's and maybe lower 30's. Mine is tuned rich and doesn't get nearly that. Maybe 18mpg on the road. The neat thing is that it practically lopes along at 60mph. The tach is at about 1500rpms. It has the six speed T56 tranny. Just a suggestion of us who can't afford a Vette. Oh, yeah. It has the advantages of still being a Mazda and the cheap insurance that goes with it.
