Speed3 Bucking and Surging

They figured it out after, I dunno know 4 tries. Combination of bad fuel pump (rubber part was ripped) and bad air fuel ratio sensor. Car runs perfect now

Every once in a while, I wonder if the ECU is pulling timing, causing that effect. I imagine it might be the sensitive measurement sensors, like the air temp, MAP, or MAF that are sending readings to the ECU, and the ECU is adjusting. Air temps can change quickly here in Vegas, especially when you drive by a pond or other small body of water. This probably confuses the ECU sometimes.

Kinda like those stories about Evos stalling out when someone with an obscenely loud exhaust would rev up at them?

I can't find the exact link, but it was right around when they first started bringing them to the states. In order to compinsate for the urine they get in Cali (and I guess assumed the rest of the US), I believe, the knock sensors were set rediculously high to protect the motor. I remeber that after a few months, I started seeing stories about Evos stalling out when racing, if next to a more built up Domestic V8s. Turns out the knock sensors were picking up the vibration from the V8s and shutting the engine down, or something much along those lines.

I never owned an Evo, though, nore had first hand expierence. Just what I was reading on forums about it from owners it had happened too.

This whole thread is exactly why technicians at dealerships and independent repair shops need the services I render for my employer Identifix. Simply put, this s*** doesn't happen when we're on the phone with techs. Fix it right the first time, with no B.S. Its too bad that dealerships are filled with ego, which prevents them from seeking a higher level of knowledge with trouble cars. It costs them far more then the call or website lookup...
