Speed Sport Stereo Pretty Good.

I must be one of the few that thinks the Speed Sport Stereo sounds pretty good. High's are accurate, mids sound very good, placement is correct and the volume can go pretty high without distortion. I'm playing off an IPOD with 256K (upgraded) downloads. I also increased the sound output of the IPOD so I don't have to go past 14 - 15 on the volume to really crank the tunes.

I'm also not getting any speaker whine at all, dead quiet when the car is at idle or driving.

Only really downside to the stereo is the deeper bass is completely lacking. That can be easily solved with an aftermarket sub or something like a bazooka.

Just wondering why everyone is so down on the stereo and if you're honestly getting significantly better sound after installing new speakers and amps.

what is a S-Speed Stereo, Oh sport?

its not terrible. its just that there is no amp to power the speakers. there are lots of inaudible parts in the music i listen to b/c there just isnt enough power to bring them out.

try throwing an amp in there. i have already bought everything to replace my system, im keeping my Highs though

Sorry about that, corrected the name.

When you say inaudible, are you talking lows or are you talking mids/highs? Remember the S doesn't have the Bose system so it shouldn't have any special programing to tune out certain frequencies.

When I listed to the S and GT at the dealer I preferred the S stereo, it just sounded better.

What are you changing on yours?

MetroGrayMica is the best color by the way. haha

there are sounds in the music that cant be heard b/c the system isnt powerful enough.

im talking of course lows since there is no sub, but mainly talking about mids and highs.

im ripping out everything. radio and all mids. im keeping the OEM tweeters though.

our stereo most definitely doesnt sound better than the blose. but the blose didnt sound good enough for me to get the GT. i knew i was going to upgrade the system so thats one of the main reasons i didnt waste extra money on the GT.

but what i will do is hook my new headunit up with the OEM speakers to see how much better it makes them sound.

but everything has to go

Yeah, I have a sport, and the stock stereo isn't bad by any means, but at the same time it also isn't good. It's adequate, gets somewhat loud, but not decently loud. Sound is somewhat muffled, but that's to be expected on any car's stock stereo. It certainly does not come even close to my Logitech Z-5500 computer speakers, that's 505 Watts RMS of pure goodness I wish I could cram into my car. Probably gonna upgrade the MS3 with new speakers and an amp at some point, but the stocks are okay for now.

ehhh, the highs are a bit too....tinny for me. kinda rings in my hear in a very harsh way.

and my 2008 model makes volume adjustments a pain. "5" is significantly higher than "4" and "6" is significantly higher than "5". nothing gradual (notcool)

im replacing my front speakers oin my sport right now!

Just came back inside to find a how-to for components so I dont cut the wrong wiring, would like to keep the stock wiring in tact if possible, but doesnt look like I can with these damn crossovers.

I barely listen to mine loud at all but i've goot major distortion and crackling from the front speakers. I almost never turn it up past 15. So i dont know what the **** is wrong with these things.

For those of you that do not like the sound, which source are you using for your music? Is the complaint from a CD, AUX, Sirius or the Radio?

The first time I listened to the Stereo I was listening to radio stations, needless to say I was very underwhelmed with the sound quality. But after plugging in the ipod and getting the settings right on the ipod and the headunit I really can't complain. I have found that some music is very poorly recorded while others sound crystal clear.

Just curious what everyone else's opinions are based upon.

For those that have swapped to new speakers and an amp, is the sound a huge improvement or is it just louder?

I was listening to an ipod with the headlnobe jack connector in the armrest, and that sounded terrible. Got one of those noise cancelling things to drown out acceleration noises and it got better.

But now I have a flat screen Pioneer deck and has the direct IPOD hookup therough the cable to the bottom of the ipod and to the back of the deck and its MUCH better. But yes some songs are recorded or downloaded poorly, so I always look for the highest quality or bitrate and KB when downloading.

I took the fronts out today but ******* UPS didnt deliver my s*** today even though the website said today was my scheduled delivery date... So I'll be riding to work without any panels or front speakers. So no imput on the front components as of yet.

I have heard stock HU with components wont be as good, but since I have an upgraded pioneer deck it should sound decent with the different EQ settings it has. I dont listen to my s*** loud, I'm not 16-18 anymore, but I like rock music and can't seem to get the glistening vocals and guitar sounds out of the stockers without some crackling.

Only cost me $50 for the full 6x8 component setup, I didnt go expensive since I only wants some rated at 65watts rms, so that the stock deck could make them sound good. I do not plan on blowing a wad on an amp for the highs, so the Pioneer deck should push the new component set just fine.

Yeah it works for me. Bose in my opinion is a piece of s***. So I for this and other reasons I went with the sport. Worse case, I replace the whole stereo system and I'm still saving over the GT version.

I'm ok with the sound of the stock Sport system too but would like a bit more bass. I was thinking of getting an underseat powered sub like the Kenwood KSC-SW1. I know you guys are probably thinking they suck but I'm not looking for big bass.

i wasn't looking for BIG bass either and bought a cheap Visonik powered sub box for $37 shipped off ebay a few months back. It's a 12-inch sub in a very thin ported box with a built in 500 watt amplifier. I know Visonik isnt ballin, but I really only needed just a bit of bass to keep up with the stock speakers.

I honestly really like the stock sport speakers they performed well, BUT NOW they are crackling so thats the only reason I am replacing the speakers

the system is fair, but how can one stop the annoying feedback/electric static sound of the AUX input with an mp3 player?

its a ground loop isolator. Check on ebay for one of them costs like $8-10, works GREAT! Someone told me about it and I bought one when I used to use that aux jack with my ipod.

It will cancel out accelration and static/feedback when the car is driving.

What year is your car? I'm not getting any feedback when the ipod is connected via the aux input, its dead quiet when I pause the music. I wonder if Mazda corrected this problem along the way.

2008 sport model. Now i have a pioneer deck that hooks straight to the ipod but these are what I used before:

($10 on ebay) its a charger that plug right there by the aux input, ahd had an aux jack for the aux port and then a cable to go to the bottom of the ipod (better sound than using the headphone jack)

you will get the feedback/engine noice unless you get one of these ($8-10 on ebay)

If your aux jack isnt working, I had that problem a few times of the mazda aux jack clicking in and out and not registering, must be a piece of s*** to start with.

But getting the items above will give you a charger, the best sound quality from the ipod, and get rid of the engine noises you get through the speakers.
