Speed/Rev limiter on 1.6L

Just learned today that the 1.6L has it's Speed/Rev limiter set to 110mph. It felt like it was a fuel cutoff versus just being limited to that speed. Can anyone confirm this? Just curious.

I'm planning on installing a Haltech E6X so I should be able to circumvent this.

wow u hit 110 man every time id try it take freakyin forever like 5mins from70 to 95 never got to 100 lol

Install the ECU and then try more top speed runs...

Then you can install a 2.0L engine after you become a member of the "Internally Air Cooled Club"

The limiter isn't there just to stop you from going fast. That sort of sustained high load will kill the motor..

Oh I agree the limiter is in place for a reason I'm just exploring the limitations of the motor. The runs don't last more than a minute though as I'm not setting out to pop the engine.

Even if I don't break something in the process I plan on either building up the motor (yes I know a 1.6L isn't worth it but it's a good engineering exercise for me) or dropping in a KLZE.

My car is geared to go 180 MPH and believe me, my accelerating full load speed runs don't last more than about 20 Seconds, then I let. The 240km to 282km lasted only as long as I needed to snap a picture of the GPS.

I am just worried that you are going to kill the motor exploring before you have a replacement.

True I should really have a replacement lined up before something drastic happens and by drastic I mean my wife killing me when I tell her I popped my engine.

Umm you do 180MPH in a Protege?

Yup Brian an DEFINITELY do 180mph in his Protege. Loved that P5 since the first time I read about it.

Thanks much for the interest... It is responsible for some of my best days in life... and many of my less memorable ones...

Either way... we don't modify cars for the money, or because it always works out exactly the way we plan... We modify cars, to SMILE.

Believe me, my wife noticed that every time I punch 3rd to 4th.. I smile...

The fastest I have taken it is 282Km/h

It was actually not that bad the engine was fine, the trans was fine, but I am worried that the car gets too light at that speed, so I am getting a set of carbon diffusers made for the underside. Make it much flatter and should give some down force over 120 MPH..
