speaker wet guard

i was wondering if its necessary to keep the wet guards that are protecting the magnet on the speakers? i just replaced my rear speakers at best buy and they did not put the guard on the new ones?

do i need them? if i do, where can i buy them? i cant seem to remove the stock speaker ones.

i got a 02 P5.

I think you can buy aftermarket ones... but yeah, it's a good idea to have them since the speakers are in the doors... you don't want them shorting out or rotting out because they got wet!

did they give you your old speakers back with the guards on them?

i know with the front speakers, i was able to pry the guards off with a flat-head screwdriver. it took a while, since it is a very sticky substance they use, but i was able to re-use the guard for my new speakers.

if they didnt put the guards on the new ones, i would return and ask them too, since they will get wet.

Earlier, i was trying to pry the rear speaker wet guard off but I was not able to, it seemed like it's permenately stuck lol. If i tried harder, the guard would've broke off anyway. *sigh, is the P5 water leak really that bad? lol

thats what i thought too, but i worked on it, and eventually they started coming off. of coarse, this was the front speakers, so the rears could be different. and the doors arent waterproof. water can easily get in from the top, where the window goes down into. ive heard of people cutting a baffle in half to use as a rain guard. you can get them from crutchfield. i still would ask best buy to fix this issue, since they did it.

went to best buy earlier, and they told me that water should not be leaking. Should there be a leak, the rubber that is up against the window outside is damaged and should be replaced.

That's what they told me and from the reviews of other P5ers, I don't believe them one bit lol. What should i do? I'm scared to take out my P5 on rainy days lmao.

And the baffles on crutchfield, they look good, but there doesn't seem any breathing room for the speakers lol. Just a closed area. That could cut the sound quality and I don't like that.

thats why i said to cut the baffles, so they are just guarding the top.

and best buy sounds stupid.

why would they put them in the car in the first place if they didnt think they were needed?
