Speaker Questions

At the risk of hijacking someone elses thread I decided to just create my own...

pro 5.0, what kind of bass are you looking for? you can always go with a small 8 in sub that wouldnt take much space at all. i love the sound of JL audio subs, they may be a bit high in price, but the bass quality is great.

I'm not looking for any huge bass. I don't listen to much rap, only when my gf is in the car. And it's not her car, haha. I don't really have room for much in the way of a sub since I frequently fill my cargo area to transport things, which is part of the reason I liked the wagon build. I would like to just keep the stock H.U. and replace the speakers, but I have heard you can actually get worse sound by doing this. Anyone done this and gotten good results? 2 way or 3 way speakers better for this?

Usually the stock headunit doesn't produce the amt of pwr aftermarket speakers require. If you plan on adding a sub I would definitely start w/an aftermarket HU.

B/c our cargo space is so limited I have "quick connects" from my sub box to the amp so i can "uninstall/install' it easily. I have 1 12" (under pwr'ed) and it is more than enough bass in that little car.

The stock HU blows. Just by swapping out headunits, you'll notice a good sound upgrade. But, the stock speakers blow!! So, get a decent headunit, and, upgrade the speakers. You don't have to go wild. My wife wanted the full system done, and, $2000 later, she had a new JVC head, 6 channel amp, Polk Momo speakers all around, and, a 10 inch sub. Also had all the sound deadining crap in the doors and hatch, upgraded all the wiring as well. She wanted it done, and, done right.

I was satisfied with just swapping all the speakers with new Pioneer 3-ways for quite a while....I'd start with the speakers, then the headunit, then a sub, if necessary...

I swapped out all the speakers for pioneer 3 ways and i have 3 10in pioneer subs in the trunk with a 1 channel JL amp.It sounds good but the stock head unit doesnt have enough power so thats my next move,changing it out.

i did two ten inch subs in a custom sealed box as a 'false floor' (so i can still use the back) and only upgraded the front door seperates. The rears are fine.

Amps fit under the seats.

swapping the speakers is by far the most noticeable sound quality improvement you can make. Adding a sub will add some nice depth and if you spend some time on it you can build an enclosure without sacrificing much space. I would do speakers first, then a new head unit. and go from there. if your happy without a sub then don't bother with it. but do the speakers first.

If youe looking to keep the stock look there are alot of new things going on. With out getting fancy there are some now(fancy) LOC's line. out. controlers. That will take that dirty stock feed and clean it up so that adding a good amp is worth it... Is it worth it? some will say better to get a new hed unit. I personaly like the STOCK look.
