Spark plugs for 2007 unmodified Mazda6 (2.3L)

Hi there,

I tried searching for my question but didn't find the answer.

I just bought a set of NGK IX spark plugs that are supposed to be suitable for the '07 Mazda 6, 2.3L i4. I decided to check the gap of each plug. The gap on all 4 turns out to be 0.040" for 3 of them and 0.041" for 1 of them. My user manual says the spark plug gap should be 0.050 to 0.053". Am I supposed to adjust the gap these plugs? I've heard that you shouldn't attempt to adjust the gap of these irridium plugs because you would likely damage the irridium tip. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I just looked up the specs for the part number (LTR5IX11) and found what the numbers mean:

T = 14mm Hex. 5/8" thread, 0.708" reach, projected insulator, tapered seat.
R = with resistor
5 = heat rating (4 = hot, 6 = cold)
IX = High Performance Iridium
11 = 0.044" gap (but the gap is definitely not 0.044").

Thanks
