Spark Plugs and Ignition

Really, Denso is the original spark plug in the Japan!!!!
From what I gather, they are the gand daddy of spark plugs...I'll always pick Denso over NGK.

just put some ITV22s in (second set...replaced after 20k miles). I had some temporary platinum autozone ones in there for a few days... wow what a difference. so nice to be back to the densos. I didnt have to close the gap any. Just pop them outta the box and into the car

(shocked)(braindead Definitely NOT the way to gap Iridium plugs!!!!

shows how much I know about it. I just typed it in on google. I wouldnt have tapped it on a table suface if I was doing it, but I guess thats not common sense to some...

Sorry to post again, but if I am going to run a TBE, Intake, BPV, Inlet with a Cobb AP tune do you think I would benefit from one step colder plugs? It seems like it would make it run even richer given that there is less heat to burn off everything. The AP full stage 1 tune dosint raise the boost at all does it?

^ yes definitely. I ran intake/TBE for quite awhile on stock plugs and I sent them into cobb for examination and they found some "boiling" on them... aka colder plugs would be a good idea at that point

oh boy, boiling does not sound good at all. I will have to order some Denso's very soon. Are they pretty easy to install? I would think I could just take off my TMIC and they would be pretty easy to spot from there...?

Hate to beat this into the ground but besides them wearing out faster any downside to running the 2 step colder vs. the 1 step colder. Im pretty much sold on switching to the densos and want to order them tomorrow. Thanks.

my 2 cents on colder plugs. If you were modded, and Im talking more then a intake/turboback. Then you may need colder plugs. If your lightly modded you do not need them. My experience....I ran colder plugs in my lightly modded car, the car looked like a diesel under hard boost, and throttle response was down. I know they are good for knock for are seriously not needed. I only ran colder plugs on my rx7 when I was pushing twice the hp.

/\ Well put, thats exactly what my theory was on this topic. 1 step colders is probably going to be the last mod i do. (not that its bad, just in order terms)

I also figure, if your using the colder plugs for control knock, you need to either get your car tuned or remove some mods. Its only a matter of time before the engine goes boom

The only reason I went with 2 step colder was because I got better results with the 2 step vs 1 step reducing knock. I am tuned and could always use more heat reduction in my cylinders... More boost, more timing, lean AFR will result in higher cylinder temps, which also increase knock...so colder plugs is a relief...

I just don't know how much colder I can go. I think 2 step is my limit right now because when the motor is cold (morning start ups) I can slightly feel the engine run a little rough for a brief few seconds.

Thanks, with that said, if I am slightly modded, all bolt ons, not enough to get a tune and I don't plan on that anytime soon would it actually hurt to get the one step colder?

I ran Intake/TBE for quite awhile (no tune...before there was anything really). And I had my stock plugs examined at that point and they had some 'boiling' or whatever on them- which means step colder plugs would be a good idea.

So if you just have an intake and that's it you're probaly fine with stock plugs. But much more than that, especially higher than stock boost levels, colder plugs are probably a good idea

I remember this post a few back but is the swap straightforward, just take off the intercooler and they should be there? Sorry if thats a dumb questions Ive never had a car with an intercooler before this one so....

yeah, right on top the motor under the intercooler...

undo the 3 bolts holding the intercooler on, pull off the couplings, remove intercooler..

all 4 coils sitting right there in front of your face, its great. haha

I just installed my ITV24's. Mods listed below. I had meant to order the ITV22's, but I mistakenly ordered th 24's and the 22's were backordered, so I said, what the hell? Everything seems fine so far.

Did anyone check the factory gap on the stock plugs when they switched over? This caught me confused. My original plugs AND the ngk colder plugs were waay open. I will be purchasing Denso at a gap that works much better for boosted motors. and the colder ones again. yep i ****** up one of those iridiums trying to regap, even with the right tool. that was 50 bucks misspent.
