Hi boys and girls,
I am new to this forum and soon to be a new MS6 own. I am looking to buy a 2007 MS6 with 20k miles. A little about me, I own a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 that I absolutely love and it has all the power I will ever want plus more more.... I am looking for something else to drive when I am not under the influence of high HP lol. I have some few questions about the 07 MS6 that I test drove.

1) The front passenger seat has an air bag sensor that activates when more that 70 Ibs is on that seat right? Now shouldn't the indicator down under the stereo that says "Passenger Airbag" light up to show that air back is active? Or how do I know the sensor is active like in the case of other cars that have an indicator showing the front passenger air bag is activated?

2) I test drove a 2006 with 60k miles on it and a 2007 with 23k miles on it. The clutch on the 2006 was hard when you first hold it down then gets a little soft as peddle reaches the floor. The 2007 just had regular pressure all the way until peddle reaches the floor. Is it supposed to be like that? Can anyone tell me about the clutch?

3) The fuel pump on these cars is it like the regular in-tank drop in or is like the valve driven piston pump? Have there being any know issues with the pump.

4) If I get this car I will like to eventually get it up to 350awhp. I have a very good tuner in my area, which plug "n" play tuning solution is good; ATP or Cobb? How about the exhaust, is there any noticeable performance increase with the 3.0" over the 2.5" exhaust on the stock turbo?

5) Has anyone thought about trying E85 on these cars?

6) Are there any known issues with these cars that I should keep an eye for when buying or as I own the car?

Thanks for looking and sorry for the long post, any infos is greatly appreciated.

hey and welcome to the forum. i used to have a dodge stealth rt tt. amazing car when it was running haha.

1. i dont kno

2. there was a clutch fix that u could go to the dealer and get. they would put a softer spring in whish is why the 07 felt like that. if u bought the 06 you could ask the dealer to change it for you.

3. dont kno

4. most people on here are using the cobb ap, myself included. its very simple to load/unload maps. a few people are using the cp-e standback. but u need to kno what youre doing to use that one.

as for the exhaust im not too sure. cobbs turboback exhaust is a 3 inch. while magnaflows catback is 2.5 im running a 2.5 test pipe and going to get a custom 2.5 catback made up. from what ive read there isnt too much of a hp difference, but i could be wrong.

5. we dont have e85 in canadaland

6. some people have had problems with smoking turbos. most just use thicker oil and a catch can it solves the problem.

Hey, fellow Minnesotan. I had a 93 VR4 up until 2 yrs ago, loved that beast. 07 MS6 GT for a few months now and love it. From all the research I did before purchasing it seems these are very reliable cars, just not meant to be rallied or abused obviously since they are meant to be more luxury than an Evo or STI.

-I'd have to check, but I know the airbag inactive light is on when i have my work bag on the passenger seat
-can't find the link right now, but there is an excellent how to here on a clutch pedal adjustment (not the spring thing) that really helps with smooth engagement
-I'd highly recommend a rear motor mount as one of the first mods too since that eliminates the jerkiness in 1st & 2nd from the squishy factory mount
-test pipe, forge bpv, cai, turbo inlet pipe - simple and inexpensive stuff has really made this car have a wide powerband and quick response - if it would have driven like mine does now off the lot they would have sold a shiteload more
-i just use a dashhawk for monitoring so no recommendations on tuner
-the disi engine is a sophisticated piece and comes from the factory with quite a few forged internals already so I'm feeling pretty good about longevity
-from what i've read pretty minimal gains on a cat back, but if you want more sound then there ya go - although try a test pipe first as it gives a nice deep exhaust note

There is a Cam Driven high pressure fuel pump that has been known to limit big numbers on the dyno. There are fuel pump upgraded internals you can buy to alleviate that. I believe there is also a second pump in the fuel tank, but someone else will have to verify that.

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully we can answer these questions and get you squared up to buy the MS6.

Answers to your questions:

1 - the airbag light only illuminates when its not active. It's not like a GM that always displays a status, only when not engaging with something in the seat.

2 - The 2006 had a few revisions to the clutch, the 2007 model is adjusted already.

3 - We have both an in-tank and the cam driven fuel pump. There are options if you start to tune that can improve the fuel delivery of the CDFP by replacing the internals.

4 - Cobb is really the way to go for tuning. They've got the best bang for your buck, easy to swap tuning solution out there. The exhaust is a solid investment, but only if you're gonna go 3". Magnaflow is another option, but not very cost effective.

5 - Not really, but it has potential for higher octane applications. I know of people running E85 tuned Evos with really good results.

6 - Aside from the clutch and the smoking turbo issue (search for that) the car is pretty solid. Most of the major stuff has been worked out, and the car likes to be driven hard.

Hope I answered all your questions, let me know if you need any more detail.

A quick note on E85- Does not lubricate the CDFP plunger adequately and will destroy the piston in the CDFP

Thanks a bunch guys, I was about walk away from the MS6 I was looking at buying because I have being doing my research and reading about MS6 blown engines and stuff. Before looking at buying a MS6, I was looking at a 2005.5 Audi A4 but after doing a bunch of research and the number of catastrophic failures I saw on the car, I abandon it. Thought about Volvo C30 but it's not AWD. I am looking for something I can drive all year round. Then one of my co-worker suggested MS6. I test drove a 2006 and I am sure it had the clutch problem. I also test drove a 2007 with a single exhaust at the dealership and it was a really fun car to drive.
If I do buy a MS6, I think all the mod I will do on it is exhaust, down pipe, bov, intercooler, the mounts Cobb, turbo inlet pipe or all the small basic stuff.

All the infos I got so far will help me make a good decision.

Sweet someone in MN that had a 3s too and now has mazda. I did like to meet you if I get a MS6

Thanks a lot.
I was saying to myself something is wrong with the airbag cuz the light was not on at all, even with the seat empty.

I know for the Audis that has same kind of pump, it usually fails cuz there is some internal part in the pump that needs to be periodically checked and or replaced every 40-50k miles I think or it can lead to a blown engine even not performance mods have been done to it. Do you know of any such parts on the CDFP for the MS6?

If I get a Cobb and with all the right stage 2 mods I think ie exhaust, bov etc etc does it come with the map loaded to run 93 octane?

mzdspd.com has all the maps u will need.

Great thanks.

What kind of times and mph are people running doing the basic upgrade exhaust, cobb stage 2, etc etc?

With proper driving and depending on where you are geographically (elevation, relative humidity), one could expect 14.1-14.8 at 98-102mph out of that on this car.

I ran a 13.7 with just an intake / bpv. At sea level though . . .

With your bolted on car you can hit 300 whp pretty hassle free. No track monster but its fun to drive and you can pull on any lightly modded evo, sti, mustang gt,etc.

The fastest speed 6's are running mid-high 12's.

Sweet!!, that's just all I need for a daily driven all season car.
