ok my turbo was just finally finished on friday. now heres the thing. everytime i start the car from when it was been sitting for awhile, smoke comes out of the exhaust. a white smoke. but, after i start driving, it goes away. then, if i park it, after about 5 mins it starts to smoke again from the exhaust but in like 1 min it stops. i dont have any cats but i dont think its that. does anybody have any idea on what it could be???
thanks
mike

Could be the oil return line. It could be backing up oil when you stop. When you drive, the inertia probably pushes it on through. When you cut the car off the oil that is left in the turbo drains out and could be getting backed up.

Check the return line and make sure it is free flowing and mostly downward.

Thats my theory.

Sounds like a good theory, or that you have to much pressure at the feed line. Most turbo's like to see 30-45 psi of oil pressure but in some rare circumstances protege's can put out as much as 60psi of oil pressure and that could cause smoking

I'm working on a solution. I'll be putting it in this weekend. Mine smokes a lot. . .and I mean A LOT! So, I'm modifying the feed to the turbo to achieve 30-45 psi. I'll post more when I finish.

white smoke = coolant
White smoke at idle = to much oil pressure

I spoke to Mike about this and I will be ordering smaller Jets. I have 3 people with this problem. And yest the turbo likes to see no more than 45-50psi of oil pressure. Some cars are putting out a bit more causing this. Be aware that this will not destroy the car or turbo and once you go into boost the seals "tighten up" and oil does not seep through. I am currently having this problem with my S2000 as well.

Yeah, the first s2000 was totaled, and he picked up another one a week later.

Yeah blue smoke can be oil to but when oil seeps around the seals because of oil pressure its usually white
The s2k was toasted, so we got another one and took of all the goodies that were salvagable and put them on the new car.
The new car is far better and has lower mileage.

Here are some pics
THe specs are:

Kinesis 18x10 wheels
Power house amuse JDM lip

what??? WTF are you talking about? how could too much oil pressure cause white smoke?!!!?

Uhhhh ok
I guess the 90 psi of oil pressure going to the turbo on my S has nothing to do with the white smoke.....:)

This is a known side affect especially on Garrett turbo's. They do not like alot of oil pressure at idle and will smoke WHITE you will also smell the stench of burning oil.

Yes you are correct in regards to the colors of smoke on a regular car, however turbo cars will do this if they are getting to much oil pressure. They will also billow clouds of white smoke when driven hard between shifts

Thats the issue, I dont have to drive it hard, just to make the turbo spool a bit and done. after 1 minute in idle, white smoke.

Little Beavis sent me a PM with what I think is a fix. Lets see what can I do.
