So I come out from being in the restaurant for 5 mins. and some sh*t has keyed the entire passenger side of my car. Worst of all, I'm 2,000 miles away from a guy I know who could fix it for cheap( I'm visiting family in Boston and I'm from Texas). So I went to get a quote this morning . . . . . . . . . . . $1,000.00  AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH:mad:

ya track the SOB down....knock them down...step on their neck...then string them up in the square at noon and allow little children to throw hot burning coals at them!!

grrrrr.

insurance won't pay?
mine would pay, deductible is only $500 and rates won't go up

then again, i pay 1800$ every 6 months :o

hey frenchie....if you are just visiting relitives...how come you don't wait till you get home before you get it fixed? are you there on an extended visit?

MazdaMP.....isn't Harris County rates wonderful?

Man, I would KILL!

But, before you pay like 1000.0 bucks ( ouch!)....

The same thing happened to a buddy of mine. One autobody told him the same thing...about 1 grand. He had to get the front 1/4 panel to the rear done.

Took it to another shop, they said....ahhh, we can wet sand that out in a couple of hours. It cost $75 CDN. Couldn't even tell it was scratched except in one little area near the end. And his scratch was quite bad as well, pretty deep.

Just a thought..

this must just be a bad day, but on the to get another quote, I was almost hit. I was driving down the left lane of a 4 lane road when a lady stops(she's coming from the other direction) to make a left hand turn. she doesn't even stop when a truck plows into her rear-end sending her about 5 ft in front of me across my two lanes over a curb and into a building. HOLY SH*T, what is it with me today???? the truck was going about 40 and hit the brakes as he hit the lady.
so, anywayz, I'm not going back to Texas untill fall, and my insurance deductible is $1,000. so, i have to pay for it all, which sucks, but my monthly premium is cheaper. i'm getting two more estimates tomarrow-that is if I make it there:mad:

HILL COUNTRY???? after being up here in MA, I've seen frost heaves that where bigger than the "Hills" in Texas

don't I know it...my sister in law lives just north of where you are there...just across the state line in New Hampshire...been up in that part of the country many times....great roads to use our cars on. :{D

My P5 got keyed last month. Similar situation... I went to Target with the wife, and I parked carefully as usual. I was about 4 spots away from the last car. Anyway, I come out and find a keyed car. They got it from the passenger mirror all the way to the tail light. They even made sure to get the door handles and up near the windows to make sure it would be hard to fix.

Anyway, the grand total is 1106.57. I pay the first $500, insurance the rest. I just took it to the shop today and they'll have it for 5 working days. :(

As regards sanding/buffing it out, I wouldn't do that. I have a friend who is an adjuster for State Farm and used to own his own body shop. He said that doing that really cuts the clear coat (duh) and lessens the protection the paint has. Also, there was one small section on my car that they got all the way to the primer, so buffing wasn't an option anyway.

Hope it works out for you.

Damn dude, that SUCKS. We need to figure out a way to PREVENT our cars from being keyed...

I guess everything really is bigger in Texas, including insurance rates!!! I pay about $450 every 6 months for $250 deduticible and full 100/300/100 on everything else.

I'm in Madison, WI.

HA. My deductable for vandelism is 300.00 canadian. I had someone beat in my 2000 civic's bumper in a mall parking lot, and they took off. Damages were 795.00. Vandelism covered it, and I had to pay the deductible.

I pay about 70 bucks per month for insurance, full coverage. Rumour has it, that's about to change thanks to higher rates coming out.

As for wet sanding the clear coat....I guess it's all what you see as better. Painting your car should be, in my opinion the very last option. No matter how good the body shop is, new paint like that wont last, it'll just bubble / peel over time. I'd take my chances with a thinner clear coat, and start using Zaino wax to help restore the clear coat some. Not sure if I spelt zaino right. But, if the scratch is too deep....your screwed anyways.

Good luck.

Someone keyed my ride while it was waiting to be picked up for engine replacement. I was heated like birthdays with nothing but Noodle Ramen and Water! Phuckin Haters!!
