someone..ANYONE! please help me!

It was bad coil packs in my case but if you have already changed those and the spark plugs and the wires then you can rule that out. Have you checked your air intake for any leaks? Dont bother cleaning EGR it will just give you the same problems a month or so down the road. As far as resetting the EGR you can do that i also heard disconnect the battery and then pump the brakes five times or so to drain any power left in the system.

I don't know for sure i would assume if you put a new clean one in that the computer would reset itself when it notices that its now working correctly. But it don't hurt to try something as easy as disconnecting the battery and pumping the brakes a few times.

well today im gonna remove and clean the iac then reset and see waht happens.and im gonin to inspect for leaks

ok i sprayed down the throttle body with a cleaner and wiped it as well.as far as the egr valve its pretty hard to get to even after i take out the battery and filter.still wants to die when i turn it on and it does unless i give it a bit of gas..im starting to get a bit frustrated but i know im close

definitely a candidate for a dirty EGR. little bit of a pain to remove but it's only two bolts.

ive been looking for vids but none for a mazda what exactly should i remove to get the best access to it! and someone else said not to clean it its jus gonna get dirty again in a month?

the EGR takes a long time to get clogged/dirty. i cleaned the one on my MSP at 55k and it wasn't too bad. at 126k it could be gummed. if so it can really mess with your idle. it's easy to clean with some grease/brake cleaner once it's off. hard to describe but you can't really see the EGR. if you are standing in front of the car it's around the back of the engine near the intake manifold on the upper right side. fits in one hand, held on by two bolts, and has a spring loaded valve inside. you have to use a small ratchet and feel for the bolts. simple procedure, difficult to execute! i'm sure there is some kind of how-to or pictures somewhere...

i just swapped my original egr with a canadian version with the coolant lines...a major pain, but it can be done....check that link posted above for more info....it sounds like this could be the or part of your problem

Take out battery, remove air intake rubber hose and air filter box & then use 1/4 drive ratchet to get to the 2 bolts for the egr. Once loosened be careful not to lose the metal gasket that goes between egr and intake manifold. Clean with brake cleaner or carb cleaner and replace. Put battery back in and hook it up. ECU will be reset already from having the battery out while doing the egr. Enjoy the stable idle and code free cruising. It'll take 25 miles or so of mixed driving for the ECU to sort itself out.............

Hey whats up dude...lol its Waaayyyyy easier said than done! I tried fri and sat. I just cant get to the damn thing its right in my hand but i cant turn the ratchet not enough room and i dont have a smaller one..not tomention th bolts holding it are rusted as hell ans ond screw on the valve itself is stripped..**** off why me lol i think i might jus take it somewhere and have it cleaned but i refuse to pay someone for something i can do myself! What do ya think?

i used a small box wrench, once you break it loose it comes out pretty easy...putting it back is another story...maybe have a mechanic do it if you just can't break the bolt loose

ouch. it's bad enough without rusted and stripped bolts! i recommend dropping a grenade in the engine bay... works every time.

whats up guys..weathers been real bad here in NE plus other things so havnt had time to get back to it but i think im going to give it one more try..im goin to get a small ratchet first im sure i can do this on my own and its probably the cause for my bad idle but like ive said before i thank you guys for seeing this through with me i will be keeping in touch with my progress..later

hi guys I'm also new here i go by peggy protege. i have a 02 white p5.
i bought it in 01. i've had minor problems with it. most things i've been
able to fix myself thank god. a couple months ago i was having the clicking
problem but sometimes it would start i would go some place go back out to leave
and the car would'nt start this kept happening sporadically. my uncle checked it out
at his shop and said the iginition coil was bad so it was'nt running on all cylinders
i replaced both ignition coils since they were cheap and i was up and running again
i was okay for awhile but then that dreaded engine light came aglow again. the cat
converter took a crap thank god i was able to fix that myself too. now i want to change
the inside cabin filter i can see it when i take out the glove box but not sure how to get it
out other than having to take half the car apart. ****Anybody know the trick to getting it out?****
