somebody stop me before I take a sledgehammer to my p5...

i think hes powering a small country off his car when he parks it.. uGh*.. like i said.. i had the same problem.. when my car was stock..

A dead spot on the starter could be causing the problem. That could explain why the dealership couldn't find the problem (or they are incompetent).

A draining battery would show up as a problem on the diagnostics test they keep running.. and nothing shows up. And yea, they kinda said the same thing about the transmission.. they said that it wouldn't even click when I tried to start it.. it'd just not move or make no sound.. and it wouldn't work with a battery jump.

I took it in today.. couldn't get the damn thing to have a problem.. so no help. @(#*$^#!() this is irritating. It's getting towed to the dealership next time no matter what.

TheMAN.. other than the turbo system, 100,000 watt audio system, playstation, xbox, dvd player, and tv tuner.. it's all stock. In other words.. WHY WOULDN'T I MENTION IT? It's COMPLETELY stock. The ONLY thing I have done is taken the door panel off so I could make templets for my new sterio..which I'm debating if I should even install it.. or just say **** it and sell the friggin thing. I love the car, I hate the problem.

Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions.. if I ever figure it out I'll let y'all know. If you have any other suggestions PLEASE lemme know.

Thanks,
Kyle

kyle.. the key words are fusible link.. everyone i have talked to with this exact same problem.. has had the same resolution.. we fixed the fusible link and it works fine.. blah -=)

if your dealer is stupid, then do this "stupid" simple little test... get a multimeter, set it to amp mode... disconnect a terminal of the battery and hook up one of the multimeter leads to one of the terminals you have chosen an and connect the other lead to the corresponding battery cable

so if will be like this if I chose to disconnect the negative end of the battery: neg bat cable -> red lead of multimeter -> multimeter -> black lead of multimeter -> neg bat terminal

do this when your car is OFF and all doors closed... you can then tell how much juice is being used and will help find out what is eating the juice... if it is more than 1/2-1 amp, start pulling fuses until it stops! when it stops, you've found the problem

I stood there while they did this the 2nd time I went in.. read fine. That's the problem, all the tests on the battery show no problems. Now obviously, there is a problem somewhere.. I just can't think what would be this sparatic. For a while it was on a constant pattern (every one or two days).. now it's occasionally and random.

when it happens again, it's being towed to the dealer.. hopefully it'll show a problem then. If not, I'll mention the fusible link thing..

Thanks,
Kyle

its NOT a battery test, why are you blaming/looking at the battery? obviously a brand new battery should not have a problem

the test I've mentioned is simply a load test

I didn't read the whole thread I might have missed this suggestion in the process...

Try pushing the brake down when you start the car? With manuals you have to press in the clutch. I don't know if that's on all manuals ever.

never start the car with the foot on the brakes! whatever juice you could use to start the car is gone

I'm aware that it's a load test.. I worded that badly. They ran a full diagnostic test and found jack. The load is correct, everything is fine.. that's why they are confused.. as am I.

Thanks,
Kyle

Sounds like the starter selonoid to me.....had the same touble on my last car.
It would start if i gave the starter a tap with the wheel iron.

Suggest to the dealer about the tramission Neutral release, I don't know about your shifting habbit in terms of shifting from D or R to P when you park but I've seen a friend who owns a Acura TL (with the similar transmission shifter arrangement) who just throw the shifter to P, sometimes he throw it enough to release the key lock but not the release to start the ignition or the part is just plainly faulty, fussible link is located in the fuse box in the engine compartment close to your battery of cuz you can give that a try by replacing one...

oh yeah, and BTW, selling the car is obviously a clean cut from the problem... I like that too... :D

I hope this helps ....

As for throwing it into park.. with the way the shifter is designed.. it's really kinda impossible to miss park. In order to get from park to reverse, you have to go to the right, down, and back to the left.

I did suggest the nutral switch to the dealer..they said that wasn't it. The guy sat there for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out a way to make the shifter not set right.. couldn't do it.

I'll be taking all of your suggestions to the dealer next time it happens. Thanks guys! If anybody thinks of anything else, please let me know.

Kyle
