so i've had my speed three for a year and a half and this winter im seeing some things i never saw last winter....... driver side window... seems like the switch freezes when i try to put the window up?..... shocks have this sqeek to them when they first experience use... for instance fresh start up cold morning when i roll down my drive way and the car levels out onto level pavement they sqeek... also sometimes when riding over a sewer cap...(not that i aim for them).....

any suggestions?

anyone noticed something of these natures.......?

My rear passenger side window freezes in extremely cold weather. I'd say that's pretty normal, it usually works after the defroster has been blowing heat at it for 20-30 minutes.

Spray silicone lube in the rubber vertical tracks. This should help things go smoother. It can be found @ autozone.

I've found this car gets very tempermental in cold weather... more than other cars I've owned. It was 40 deg here in So Cal earlier this week, and I noticed a rattle/squeak coming from the engine bay area near the BPV. Was going to take it to the dealer. But in 70 deg weather like today, the noise is now gone.

The squeaking when cold is the rubber swaybar bushings. Once they warm up from the friction of movement, it goes away...

thanks for the info....

the squeaking goes away after it does warm up so i'm not to concerned about that .....

the window problem bothers me ..... deff gonna look into it

thanks for the help!

was about 7 degrees on my way to work this morning. really brought out the squeak gremlins for the first time, kinda surprised based on reading other posts that it took that level of cold to get the bushings to be a little temperamental. did struggle more than usual to crank too, but really no matter what car i was driving neither of those would surprise me when it's that cold out.

never had the windows freeze up on me tho, aside from sticking a little from the residue that builds up on them.

i think my question for you is what the hell are you doing with the windows open in the middle of the winter? are they getting condensation on the insides and you're opening them to see out or something? not sure about anyone else, but it'd have to be a pretty serious issue to make me roll down the windows in this kind of weather.

The car has never struggled to crank for me even at -35 C (-31 F). Maybe the canadian deployed cars have special batteries - mine seems to be an expensive made in japan unit. I rarely plug the car in, and I have left it for up to a week in -35 and it always cranks good. The battery in this car takes a lot of strain (fans running after shutdown, door locks, other stuff) so maybe check your battery for acid corrosion or a poor connection.

At -35 it needs excessively rich mixture to ignite, so it runs with black smoke out the pipe for about 5 seconds. My roommate's Accord does the same thing.

I had the collar bushings replaced by the squeeking came back this year, so don't bother getting them changed. The windshield cowl rattle is there around 10C down to -5C, below that it freezes solid and doesn't rattle anymore.

The transmission oil likes to be hot, so gear changes get a little clunky until she heats up to max.

I try to avoid rolling the windows down in the extreme cold because I've seen windows break or seize from ice buildup. Sometimes my passengers are retarded and do it anyway, but I've never had issues yet.

Defrost gets too hot for me, so I crack mine open too. When I had my Mazda 6, the moonroof stayed shut all summer and open all winter. It let the hot air out of the top. Now I have to open the side windows.

Once the engine reaches full temp and my glass is all defrosted, I drop the thermostat down to 67 or 68 degrees and let the windows up. That keeps it nice and comfy inside.

I live in New England and in the last couple of Winters I always had squeaks going over bumps on very cold mornings. This Summer I had the Mazdaspeed coilovers installed and this Winter I have not a squeak. I was surprised. It seams to ride better with coilovers on cold mornings.
