SOLOII Classing my Car

UNless the FSM has a boost specification then I think it would be kosuer as a position would be a hard thing to dcitate in a manual.

I think most FSM have the boost specification. I know the FWD turbo Volvos have it spelled out. Without it, how would a tech know where to set it?

Just hide the BC :D

An old road race mechanic told me this about motorpsorts:

There are loosers and there are cheaters.

Take that for what its worth.

He also said that its not cheating unless you get caught, even then its called being innovative.

If this is your 1st event keep the Boost Controller hooked up and run in Novice.

As for "there are losers and there are cheaters", and "its not cheating unless you get caught", here's what I have to say about that: Leave it clean, suck it up and drive faster. Even if no one else knows, I would know if I cheated and that would take the high out of the victory for me.

BTW - I was busted for having a boost controller in my RX-7 I was in ASP with the Z-06's and Vipers. A Porsche 944T owner spotted my boost controller before an event and had me bumped to BP with him I beat him with my full interiored street car with 225 RWHP at the time he had 400 RWHP and a tubbed car weighing over 400 lbs less than mine.

The 2 reasons I was in ASP with a Boost controller.
1. No one ever shows up for BP and they refuse t bump me to AP because the Cobra guys get mad when I beat them and mess up thier season trophy race.

2. My stock engine had a weak rear rotor and we had the boost controller on it to keep it down to 7 PSI and keep the 10 PSI spikes from hitting I was actually using it to turn down my HP.

It was still illegal and after that event I just ran alone in BP 90% of the time. I would just shoot for FTD's for some competition since its kind of boring racing against no one.

I tried to run in SM2 but one of the timers had a MR2 in there and didnt want me to screw up his points either so they said my DOT Hoosiers were illegal for SM2.

The dirty play is sometimes in the timing trailer as well.

I now just go out and register for BP and play no worries or cares in the world.

FYI- More people cheat than you want to believe trust me I didnt believe it either.

Look at Williams in Indy - Brake heat was a concern for all the teams they got caught being "innovative" with their brake ducts.

It happens at all levels of racing from F-1 right down to the local Autocross.

I could not agree more. But, a vitory when you have no one in your class and the timing officials refuse to bump you into another class is just plain silly.

I never really felt like I was cheating. If I had my boost turned up to 12 PSI and had a healthy engine then, yes, I agree, victory would be bittersweet.

No to hi-jack this cats thread.

My suggestion was to leave the boost controller in and go race. He will be in Novice class anyway and I have seen 700 HP Supras loose to stock Civics in Novice class.

Just go have fun and drive your cars wheels off.

All DOT tires are legal for SM2. There is no current exclusion list AFAIK. Bring the rulebook next time and run SM2.

As for cheaters and losers and all that gobbledygook - were not getting paid for this, at best we get a $10 trophy and the respect and admiration of our peers (and maybe a free tire here and there if you're really good). I'm all for creative interpretation of the rules - in the long run it makes for better competition and better rules - but blantant cheating is a whole other bag of worms that we can all do without.

As for noobs and boost controllers - I really don't care - they aren't going to beat me anyways. Just as long as they are aware of what is legal and what is not legal so they can yank it off when they start to score points (or bump themselves to SM/SM2 if appropriate).

There is no "good" reason to cheat... Hiding a boost controller so that you can SLOW your car down? Whatever....

Crack Monkey is right about the tires. Any DOT legal tire is allowed in SM2...

Comparing cheating in professional motorsports to cheating in autocross is silly...

Cheating is still cheating....

A boost controller takes 5 seconds to disconnect... Either disconnect it, or run in the proper class...

Making excuses for cheating is silly....

Finally, if he's going to just go out and drive for fun, Why would he car where he's classed? Honestly?

I wasnt making excuses I was stating explaining my situation. I wasn't hiding my boost controler BTW the underhood module was in plain sight and the controler itself was mounted in the dash in plain view. I just hated running all by myself.

We did slow my car down with the boost controller. We could not afford to have the boost creep to 10+ PSI we used the BC to hold it steady at 7 PSI the difference between 7 and 10 PSI in a Turbo rotary is about 60 HP. So you tell me what you think holding the boost down to 7 was doing?

I am in my proper class and have been since "Mr. National Champ" complained about my car and wanted it in his class.

I have run alone in BPrepared for the last 2 years. I was planning on going to Topeka and running BP so I have a set of No-DOT slicks for my car right now. They will be replaced with a set of DOT's next year.

If you think there is not cheating at the national level I applaud you in your trust in man. I have heard story after story of people cheating at all levels.

Yup its only Autocross and its only a $10 trophy. Yet, there is so much unsportsmanlike conduct its unbelievable.

BTW- The guy that protested my car for having a Boost controler was running 17x10 front and 17x12 rear rims /tyres in B-Prepared. He didnt think anyone noticed. I never complained I really couldnt care less but, I could have had him disqualified in BP if I wanted. So he was cheating with his rims/tyres and then complaining and having me moved into his class,...go figure.

I also understand DOT hoosiers are allowed in SM2 the problem was timing would not let me run there because thir friend was in a heated battle for the season points and I would have messed him up so they left me and continue to leave me alone in BP.

I have only been Autocrossing for 2.5 years this is my 3rd season. I have benn considering just running in EXP from now on and being done with it.
I just go out now and have fun and not care about winning I just try to better my own times each time I run.
