I found that my passenger side had been KEYED. All the way down the side from the rear fender all the way to the front fender. It's deep enough on the Ft Driver door that there is NO WAY it can be buffed out. I'm EXTEREMLY PISSED. What really figures is that I will be moving into a house in two months, but yet my car gets Keyed NOW just before I move.

So, I have AAA full coverage and I was thinking about making a vandalism claim. Has anyone had to do this? Any idea what it may do to your rates? Did you still have to pay you deductable?

Any thoughts on this would be nice, I'm pretty upset and I REALLY cant wait to move, more so than ever.

SO who did you piss off?

And what is AAA "Full Coverage"....I never knew Triple A isured anything?

i have triple A and i had my hood gouged...you pay the same deductible for like your windshield and wat not if its vandalism, mine is like 250$ i beleive.

Triple A "INsurance" or just Triple A?

Last I checked Vandalism is covered my your Insurance Company as a comprehensive claim...so it all comes down to what your COmprehensive coverage is.

I'd be careful though, depends on what you want to do to the car because if you file it'll show up on a carfax of the car. Might be better just to eat the cost yourself instead of claim, depending on how much shops quote you for it.

Yes, AAA Insurance, I figured that was obvious enough. Yes, “Full coverage”, as in comprehensive coverage. I have a $100 deductable. The reason I asked was because I heard a rumor from a friend a long time ago that it can be waived in the event of vandalism. That's why I asked. I was also wondering about my rates... makes me wonder if it would be worth it to shell out the money to fix it myself of not.

waIT TILL YOU SEE WHAT THE REPAIR BILL WILL BE...i BET YOU TURN IT IN THEN.

Damn caps lock.

IF you have a Cprehensive deductable of $100....then you will have to pay $100...there is no waiver for vandalism....Its exactly what Comprehensive is for.

Not always true, I have had deductables waived in the past with AAA. Example, my windshield had to be replaced due to a rock cracking the hell out of it on the freeway on a different car with the same level of coverage.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any expierence with having to file a vandalism claim.

You raise a good point. Though I do plan on driving this car into the ground in the long run, so the car fax isnt a big deal. I dont plan on selling it. The cost is my concern. I would rather pay now then have it jack my rates for god knows how long.

As far as the "who did I piss off"... I live in an apartment complex with a bunch of "ignant" morons. I have my own private entrance and don’t talk to anyone in the complex to be honest. Some ass hat probably keyed my car because I took their parking spot after they left. Thanks for the sympathy...

IF you need SYpathy from an Internet forum....You need far more.

I never said it didnt suck...and I hate assholes who dont respect others things....but dont look for sympathy here.
Sorry...I just call it how I see it.

...and my comment was mostly sarcastic.....sorry if you couldn't tell that....but it was.

I really do hate assholes that mess with others cars....we have far too much money and time into them for some random jackass to deem it neccessary to cause us trouble in one way or another.

Windshields are different.....It may be under comprehensive...but in some states....The Insurance companies are REQUIRED to repair it free of charge.

Other than WIndshields....There should be no other instance where they would waive your deductable.

You're in Ohio. I bought my car in Ohio and had to explain to the salesman about the "no fault" laws here in MI. No offense, but I was just asking advice from "locals" to see if anyone else had been in this situation and how they handled it. The laws are very different state to state, and in turn situational.

As far as the windshield and vandalism being comprehensive, they both are and are listed as being "less the deductable". So, if it can be waived due to a rock hitting me from a semi, why not for vandalism? The crack in my windshield didn’t impair my driving so it was in all reality cosmetic, so what makes that any different? There is nothing else listed in the policy for windshields being covered without deductable, nor is it law here in michigan. Once again, that’s why I was seeing if anyone else had been in this situation and actually filed a claim with their insurance company.

I know AAA used to waive windshield deductibles if you got it fixed at Henderson Glass but that was a while back. About the rock from the semi: it could have gone either way. If the rock falls from the truck directly onto your car, they'll waive the deductible. If it falls from the truck, hits the ground first and then bounces onto your windshield, they won't. Don't ask me why. That's their rule, use it against them. :D
As far as waiving the deductible for vandalism, it probably won't happen but it couldn't hurt to ask. Call your agent and see if they'll do anything for you.

Your rates shouldn't go up for a comprehensive claim, as there is no "fault" assigned one way or the other. Even though MI is a "no-fault" state, how insurance companies pay out and how tickets are issued, etc are still assigned a percentage of fault. If you have broad collision, for instance, and you are in an accident but not found to be "substantially at fault", then you don't have to pay your deductible.
Unless you make a habit of having comp claims (like one or two every year), then they probably won't give you any kind of hassle.

Go get an estimate and see how you feel about paying it. My guess is that you'll be sticker-shocked and be happy to let AAA foot the bill. If you go to one of their "approved facilities", then they won't even have to do the whole estimate/approval thing. They fix it, you give them $100, you drive your car home... and then go back 2 or 3 times for them to unfuck little things like paint nibs that didn't get buffed.

Thanks, this was helpful. Did it effect your rate?

well see i have 7 points so i try to stay away from my insurance company, i made a call but never filed a claim....after pricing it out to have my hood repaired it was 350$ with a 250$ deductable so it isn't worth me saving 100$ and then having to worry bout my rates increasing or any hassle from them.

For you, that totally makes sense, I would have done the same thing. I did talk to my insuirance company, and for once No Fault works out in my favor. Thanks to that law and it being vandalized my agent said it cant effect my rates.
