So I hit the top speed on my 3.

118! Florida Turnpike heading north. Not bad but she can go much faster. Have you guys found anything for disabling the speed limiter? She can definitely hit 130 if it wasn't limited.

Haha 118Km? I Have had tickets for more than that. Uh, I think its miles, dude...

Anyway, that's ~190km/hour for us Canadians. My Ford Contour V6 had a rev limiter at 185km and it had plenty of room left. I have had my P5 up to at least 175km and I chickened out with room to go. This said, I don't care so much for top end speed, I want acceleration and handling, at least we get one of the two with the P5.

How did it handle at that speed? Were you still feeling confident or were you like, "Uh oh, I am pushing my baby to the limit".

i pushed my P5 to about 192 (halfway between 190 and 195). it took a while before it got to 190 so i think mazda is right when they say it's top speed is 195km/h (~120mph)

its different with the MSP though ... i reached fuel cut at 220km/h (137mph) in no time ... it could go higher im sure

and both cars still felt pretty good at that speed .... although im sure it wouldnt take much to lose control

thats awesome!!

118km or mph?

MPH. I didn't hit the limiter however. I didn't want to flirt with it. All I heard is that is bogs down neon style so I just eased off at 118.

Yes, my P5 hit 195km/h and still felt good, but it was fuel cutting me, and about 210km/h in the speed, and ran outta road, cause it was a hilly road, and I wasn't gonna go zooming over hills, a little to risky to me. It's awesome, cause there is a really flat country road just outside of town, where no Cops ever sit, and if they did, you'd see them well in advance, it's perfect for testing top speed, even really powerless cars have enough road to go. I got a very gutless Chevy Sprint(1.0L I3 SOHC 6V FI Engine, 12 inch wheels, 49hp, 58ft-lbs tourque(actual figureshttp://www.edmunds.com/used/1990/geo/metro/5622/specs.html?tid=edmunds.u.standard.leftsidenav..6.Geo*),
and I got that sucker to hit 175km/h, had a friend with a radar gun get my speed, cause the speedo stopped at 140km/h. I really had trouble getting that car to that speed, like, it felt like it was about to fall apart, and lift up, it was kinda scarey. Needless to say, on the next run, I blew one cylinder, damaged another, and had to drive it home, on one and a half cylinders, and no oil, she's gone, but she was fun.

The last time I was speeding on the Florida Turnpike, I was doing over 150mph. The FHP that caught me wrote 150 + on the ticket. The only reason he caught me was it started raining and I slowed down. I had walked away from his 440 cube Plymouth cruiser.

BTW, that was in 1969 in my 1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra 428 cu.in. CJ. And no, that car didn't have a governor.

Ticket was $300. That was a lot of money in 1969.

Hell... you'd get thrown straight into jail and have your car impounded if you tried that today.

Still, that's impressive speed from a shoebox!

I wouldn't suggest speeding on the Turnpike...I got a ticket last summer for doing 92.
I don't suggest it either. But what other highway can you think of that'll let you hit 120 without running to other drivers?

This is what I've heard.

I've also done 195km/hr. I was pushing for 200km but it started cutting on me. Fastest I've ever gone was 225km/hr. in my '94 Ford Probe GT, probably could have gone faster but I chickened out seeing as it was on a public hwy., it was 3am though and it was empty.

I did 195 km/h in an RX-8.

On a test drive. (2thumbs)

75 to Naples, Alligator Alley, Highway 27, etc

Alligator Alley?! I got nailed on that stretch while on vacation there in Florida. Luckily the the officer let me go with just a warning, I was doing 15mph over! He seemed pretty cool though, I was surprised, I thought for sure I was going to get screwed especially with Ontario plates! He just told me to watch the limit, and enjoy the rest of my vacation. (spin)

I'm not recommending that anyone do 120 in those places, but if you wanted to, those would be the best places. I usually see cops on Alligator Alley & it's not a safe place to do it, but it's long & straight...so you could.
