So I hit the top speed on my 3.

I hit an indicated 130 on my p5

thats 210 km/h for you metric folks

either my car was running great or my speedo's way off :P

id say your speedo is off

i hit 195 going slightly downhill and it felt like the engine couldnt go faster

maybe you have a turbo and you dont know ?

i hit 180 something today on my test drive
on a 2.3L mazda 3 sport...
car felt flimsy.... i felt like the car controls me...
yet my shittier handling protege at the same speed felt safer.. dunno y

You talking to me? I was doing 118mph on a flat road at 4500RPMs and the engine was still tugging.

Hell... you'd get thrown straight into jail and have your car impounded if you tried that today.

Still, that's impressive speed from a shoebox!
The Trooper did throw me in jail in Fort Pierce. But they had to let me out because I had the $300 on me, which they probably thought I was broke. It was payday at the night club I was playing at.

Plus I was doing that speed with those Goodyear Polyglass bias ply tires that should have blown out, but they held together.

BTW, I was young and stupid (26) or I wouldn't have driven that fast. But that's the reason I bought that car, to go fast. That car got me a lot of tickets, especially since it was red, but it was also a lot of fun.

There are days I wish I still had it. Probably worth many times more than the
$4100.00 it cost new.

why then on the mazda3 S seriers for North America does it show 140 (usually the car can go NEAR that speed, so why do they need the extra ~30mph on the speedometer?!?! if it can "only" go 118?

140-118 = 22

22 != 30

Nah but 140 seems to be the usual highest speedometer reading on most 'sporty' cars. Plus the 3 *could* get closer to 140 if it wasn't goverened...the 118 limit is not drag or redline limited.

so if the speedometer would go up to 300 MPH, would you still believe that the car can go that fast??

Wishful thinking?

Or maybe because those damn designers KNOW FULL WELL that it will do 140 and they just want to taunt us with it?

Bastards.

I d-loaded a video the other day of a guy test-driving a Diablo on an oval track and they showed him pegging the speedo...

... AT 340 KM/H!!! (boom06)

No, but i ask again why the need for the extra mph? why would you put 0-300 mmphs on a car that can only hit 50?

im not saying that 118 is NOT its top speed, but if it IS then why the need for the extra mphs? why not put it 0-120mph with the governor at 117-118?

Seems more reasonably logical?

the car shouldn't have a problem going to 140, but what are your tires rated at???
I think the 3 tires are v-rated. Don't quote me on that, though.

I've gone 140 (one time only) but let off rather fast being tires only rated at 130 'H' rated. The car will go faster then that but we couldn't tell how much faster unless the PoPo guns us. AT that speed your going to be walking home, they'll tow your car. Reckless driving ticket would be lucky, at that speed it becomes reckless endagerment and you go to jail..... well that's what I've heard.

Johnny,

please read an entire thread before you post. We are discussing Mazda 3 here and not MSP. I believe MSP has V rated tires too.

Sorry about posting here......my bad, just thought we would post some speeds, I have H rated because I have cheap 18" tires now. Again sorry to thread jack, not my intention, will be more careful in the future. :)
