So...about the USB thing

I just got a CX-5 yesterday. I love it, really fun to drive. However when I hit the usb/AUX button on the stereo (regular one, I didn't care to spring for the screen etc) nothing happens. I plugged my phone, gs5, in and it seemed to recognize it as a media device (at least my phone did) but still...nothing when I hit the button on the stereo. Any ideas?

Do you have music stored on an SD card? Android phones don't work like iPhones with radios. The radio is only able to read what's on an external storage and treats it just like a USB drive. I think maybe the Lollipop update might allow for music to go over the USB, but I'm not sure. My Moto X isn't even recognized, nor does it charge, so I can't really give tips.
