Snow and Protege5

i'm also on stock rubber and i love it!!! nothing is better the hiting a corner at 70kph and hiting that e-brake and just taking it side ways. p5's have great handling and i just love winter driving

this is my first winter with this car and i decided to just keep the stock rubber...i didn't have any problems....never got stuck or anything, i guess i could have gotten myself stuck if i wanted to but i was still able to have loads of fun e-brakin around every corner with minimal concern

I got Pirelli Winter Snowsport 210s put on my car for winter (4 of them). I am really not impressed with how the car handles in the snow. My VWs with snow tires were WAY better. I bought these tires because they came in the stock size, and got really quite good reviews. Perhaps it's not quite as good as people said. I don't know.

Anyone have better luck with tires that actually made their cars good?

Just wondering...

We have the same tires on our P5, but only on the front and we've done pretty well with them. Maybe they're just not cut out for BC winters? ;)

I have 4 Toyo Garit HT (205/55 on 15" rims) on my P5 and they are superb in snow and great on pavement.

my sp5000's would be slicks is they had 33k on them.....tell me how you do it?

i use symperit top-grip's 195/65/14 and they have been great. i probably will need new ones next winter. i try to take it easy on them, but it is sooooo hard. they have been through two long snowy winters and this is the third.....believe i will get blizzaks next time.....they are great tires and seem to hold up well.....

Hey, I'm riding on the Pirelli Winter Snowsport 210s aswell....

I live in Vancouver and drive to Whistler almost every weekend, and I've found these snow tires to be great. Compared to the stockers they are night and day. I got my car in Sept of 2001, and I had to change to winter tires in the first winter cause the stockers are so bad.

Anyways, from what people have been telling me the Pirelli Winter Snowsport 210s are some of the best for our car, so don't bother buying new ones. Just make sure you accelerate slowly on the icy surfaces and you won't slip at all.

Update: I tested the Pirellis Snwowsport this morning in one of our typical Montreal winterstorm at rush hour (unplowed streets and about 3 in. of snow) and they were OK. Not as good as the Dunlop Graspic (the Graspic are hard to beat in those conditions) I'd say, grip-wise, they are about 50-60% as good as the Dunlops in snow, they slip a bit more on launch although braking can be scary. But they are 1000% better on any dry surface! These Pirellis would be perfect on an AWD!
