Well I didn't get a real antenna I just got a stick on one that dissipates static charge and stops your car from shocking the hell out of you.
I have installed a VW antenna on my old car (Suzuki Swift) and it was very easy. Scary but easy (scary because you have to drill a hole in the roof of your car.)
The VW antenna has a really long cord and it will plug into your exciting antenna.
when buying one please check your car if it has a male or female end that way when you do buy one get the opposite so that it is easy to plug in.
All you have to do to install one is remove the roof lining and that is very easy just remove the center doom light and the F**ck handles (sorry don't know what else they are called. and the lining should come off. then there should be some insulation just clean it where you will drill your hole. The most important thing is to use a tool that make a nice clean hole (NOT A DRILL BIT) that will bend and twist your roof when you drill. I used a Spade bit to drill my hole and it was like cutting into butter with a hot knife. This is what a Spade bit looks like.
Sorry don't know how to make a link just cut and paste.

And in the top left corner search for spade bit.
